Faisal Kawoosa, chief analyst at Indian research firm TechARC, said that Samsung’s share of the Indian smartphone market will reach 23-24% in the second quarter of 2023, surpassing Xiaomi to become the most popular phone manufacturer in India. Xiaomi will be in second place with 19-20% share.

Kausa believes that Samsung currently provides Indian consumers with a rich choice of 4G and 5G models, and he said that due to the price increase of Xiaomi models in the Indian market, it has reduced its attractiveness in the Indian market. Kausa believes that Indian consumers prefer Samsung over Xiaomi in the price range of 20,000 rupees (about 1,691.98 yuan).

Turning to the smartphone market next year, Techarc believes that macroeconomic issues will once again lead to a decline in device shipments. The Indian smartphone market in 2022 may also see a year-on-year decline in shipments. But IDC believes that in 2023, smartphone shipments will return to 2019 shipment levels.

With the popularization of 5G in India, many Indian users are expected to buy new 5G mobile phones in 2023, which may be a factor in promoting device sales. The average selling price (ASP) of smartphones is expected to rise due to high demand for 5G handsets next year.
