Microsoft Xbox Game Pass allows players to play hundreds of complete games with a one-time paid subscription. However, some games are available for a limited time. After the time is up, they can only purchase the game to continue playing.

Previously, Microsoft would only inform players on its official blog which games were about to leave the subscription library, and the reminder was not very eye-catching. Maybe the game I was playing on the first day was out of the library the next day, and the experience was not very good.

To address this issue, Microsoft is testing a new feature with members of the Xbox Insider program that Xbox players in Beta, Alpha, and Alpha Skip-Ahead previews can now experience:

When launching an Xbox Game Pass game that is leaving the subscription library, players will see a new dialog box that helps explain exactly when the game is leaving and provides an easy path to purchase the game so they can play it while playing Continue playing after leaving the library.

The system update version number for Beta and Alpha preview versions is 2310.230924-2200, and the version number for Alpha Skip-Ahead preview version is 2408.230925-2000. If your friends did not participate in the preview update, you can wait for the subsequent official version system update to be pushed.

During the 2023 Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft Game CEO Phil Spencer was interviewed by Game Watch and talked about the pricing of Game Pass. When asked if Game Pass will see further price increases in the future, Phil Spencer responded in the affirmative.

Phil Spencer’s answer is as follows:

I think the price of Game Pass will increase further in the future, but only if we provide more value to players.

We recently increased Game Pass pricing, but this was a decision made after careful consideration. We always believe that even if prices increase, it is important that we provide corresponding value services.

Microsoft is currently actively promoting the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. If this acquisition comes to fruition, Game Pass will introduce many blockbuster games such as “Call of Duty”.

Xbox head Spencer previously claimed that after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, the “Call of Duty” game “will not immediately join Xbox Game Pass.”

However, Xbox blogger IdleSloth84 posted today that when a player purchased “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” in the game store, the page showed “You can get this product for free through a game subscription! Continue to purchase and you can use it permanently!” words.

Many players believe that Microsoft has begun to modify the game introduction, which means that Microsoft is expected to add “Call of Duty” to Game Pass “immediately” after the acquisition is completed.

According to previous FTC court documents, Microsoft cannot bring “Call of Duty” to the Xbox Game Pass service before 2025, so when will Microsoft launch the “Call of Duty” series of games on related services? , is still a question.

The British CMA regulatory agency has preliminarily approved Microsoft Activision Blizzard’s “modified plan” (to sell cloud gaming rights to EA). If all goes well, the relevant transaction will be completed before October 18.

Twitter blogger Game Pass Tracker posted that in a report on the acquisition of Microsoft Blizzard by the European Commission, it disclosed the user composition of Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft’s game subscription service.

The relevant description appears on page 161 and chapter 680 of this report, which says: “Microsoft is the first company to make efforts and invest in the field of cloud games, which shows that the company is ‘player-centric, Device-agnostic’ vision and business model. The launch and development of Game Pass (including the top version of Game Pass Ultimate) cloud gaming service is the commercial cornerstone of this strategy. Among them, Game Pass Ultimate occupies millions of XGP users With nearly 70%-80% share, Microsoft has discussed in internal documents that, through Game Pass Ultimate, the ability to…”

At the same time, Game Pass Tracker also claims that XGP Ultimate users can expect to play Activision Blizzard games on this service.

It was previously reported that Microsoft’s Xbox division recently announced its financial report for fiscal year 2023, with a cumulative revenue of US$15.477 billion, ranking second in the division’s revenue history.

Xbox Game Pass

Among them, the game time of Xbox Game Pass has increased by nearly 25% compared with last year, and the number of monthly active users has also hit a record high. However, Microsoft, as before, has not announced the revenue and subscriber scale of the Game Pass business. Xbox Game Pass has more than 25 million subscribers, according to tweaktown.

In addition, Microsoft XGP added 7 new games later this month, namely the hand-painted style puzzle game “TOEM”, the first-person perspective circular puzzle game “Maquette”, the action-adventure puzzle game “Fictional World 2: Creed Valley”, Survival construction management game “Wandering Pastoral”, FPS shooting game “Serious Sam: Siberian Rhapsody”, narrative cooking game “Venba”, horizontal version action game “Cerulean”. There are also 5 games including “Layers of Dreams”, “Expeditionary Army: Rome”, “Marvel Avengers”, “Upward Battlefield”, and “Two Points Campus” that will withdraw from the XGP service on July 31.

Microsoft’s Xbox division announced its fiscal year 2023 financial report, with a cumulative revenue of 15.477 billion U.S. dollars, ranking second in the department’s revenue history.

What’s interesting is that Microsoft’s revenue in the fourth fiscal quarter (Q2 of this year) did not meet Microsoft’s expectations due to weakness in first-party and third-party games.

Xbox Game Pass game time has increased by nearly 25% over last year, and the number of monthly active users has also hit a record high, but Microsoft, as before, has not disclosed the revenue and subscriber scale of the Game Pass business.

According to tweaktown report, Xbox Game Pass has more than 25 million subscribers.

Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, confirmed that the company’s first-party games have more than 150 million monthly active users across all devices, and that includes stats for games like Minecraft on the Switch, Sony PlayStation and more.

The latest financial report shows that sales of Xbox game consoles fell 13% year-on-year in the quarter and 30% month-on-month, with Microsoft citing supply issues as the main reason. Xbox content and services revenue increased 5% year-on-year, and the overall gaming business revenue was $36 million, an increase of 1% year-on-year.

XGP family membership program previously only in Ireland and Sweden and a small number of other countries and regions on-line test, and has not announced the specific online date.

It was previously reported that in this test, the XGP family membership program allows up to five people from the same country or region to form a group, and each account has “their own independent access to XGPU games, content and rights.”

Microsoft has announced that from August 1, the price of Xbox Series X consoles will be increased in all countries and regions except the United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil and Colombia. Also effective July 6, Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Microsoft’s game subscription services, will also increase in most markets, the first price increase since the launch of Xbox Game Pass in 2017.

Microsoft gaming PR lead Kari Perez told foreign media outlet VGC: “Our console prices have remained the same for many years, and this price adjustment reflects the competition in each market.”

The Xbox Series X will be priced from £449.99 to £479.99 in the UK, from €499.99 to €549.99 in most of Europe, from CAD $599.99 to CAD $649.99 in Canada, and from AUD $749.99 to AUD $799.99 in Australia. While the Xbox Series S will not be adjusted in any market and will remain at $299.99.

As for game subscription services, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will increase from $14.99 to $16.99 per month (€14.99 / £12.99), while Xbox Game Pass for Console will increase from $9.99 to $10.99 per month (€10.99 / £8.99). Microsoft has not changed the price of PC Game Pass. For those who are already monthly Game Pass members, the new price will take effect on August 13 (September 13 for Germany). For those who subscribe to Game Pass through an annual redemption code, the new prices will take effect at the time of renewal. All markets will be affected by the Game Pass price increase, except for a few countries such as Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia.

Microsoft emphasized that the Game Pass price adjustment is unrelated to its acquisition of Activision Blizzard and is simply a response to local market conditions. Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pas price increase follows the general trend of entertainment subscription service price increases in recent years, with video streaming services such as Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu and others all raising prices last year or the year before. Music streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify have also raised prices in most markets in recent years. Nintendo hasn’t adjusted prices since launching its Switch Online subscription service in 2018, while Sony updated its PlayStation Plus subscription service last year with three packages for PlayStation Plus Essential, Plus Extra and Plus Premium for PlayStation subscribers can choose.
