According to the source Albacore (@thebookisclosed), Microsoft is preparing new features for the next major update of Win11 (or Win12), mainly focusing on smart notifications, Spotlight activities, cursor indicators, Depth of field effect, “Your devices” tab, energy saving page and more.

The content based on the foreign technology media pureinfotech, attached the unreleased functions/features of Microsoft Win11 / Win12 as follows:

Smart notifications

The user opens the “Settings” > “System” > “Notifications” path, and a new “Enable smart notification filtering during standard working hours” option is added to the “Notifications” settings.

It’s unclear how this feature works, but it is estimated that after users enable this option, some non-work-related notifications will be blocked during normal office hours, thereby reducing the interference of other notifications with your work.

Spotlight activities:

In “Settings” > “Privacy & Security” > “Camera”, a new “Spotlight activity” option is added to the page to display suspicious peripheral and sensor usage.

Mouse Cursor Indicator

In Settings > Accessibility > Mouse Pointer & Touch, there’s a new option to enable “Pointer indicator,” which adds a crosshair effect for better positioning of the mouse pointer.

The company has even added the “Windows Key + Ctrl + X” keyboard shortcut. Note: This is not a brand new feature, it is just now integrated into the Settings app.
Your device tab in the Settings app

On the home page of the Settings app, Microsoft is working on adding a new card called “Your Device” that will include basic technical hardware and software information about your device. Some of this information includes Windows 11’s processor, memory, version .

Energy Saver:

In Settings > System > Power, the “Battery Saver” setting is renamed “Energy Saver.”

Depth of field effect

In Settings > Personalization > Background, it was discovered that Microsoft is working on a new Depth of Field feature that adds a parallax effect to background images as you move your mouse.

In earlier versions, the feature was noted to use AI, but in the latest update to Windows 11, Canary Channel removed the “AI” reference, which may indicate that the feature won’t use AI.

Microsoft’s latest update to the list of abandoned features, and WebDAV protocol has become one of the abandoned features of Windows. Generally speaking, the abandoned function will explain the reason, but Microsoft did not give an explanation.

Of course, being deprecated doesn’t mean that you can’t use it later. For now, you can still enable the feature on your own initiative, but Microsoft may remove the service in the future.

WebDAV, the Distributed Read, Write and Version Control Protocol, is an extension of the HTTP / 1.1 protocol that adds new HTTP methods and headers to support any type of Web authoring, not only HTML and XML, but also text, graphics, spreadsheets and other formats.

In addition to this, Microsoft will also abandon the Computer Explorer (Note: Computer Explorer here refers to Computer Explorer) service, which is mainly used to identify all files or print servers on the local subnet. Due to a long time without updating and maintenance, the function is no longer safe.

The file size of Windows is gradually growing, and the latest version of Win11 has increased in size by approximately 7.586% compared to the last version of Win10.

The latest Windows 11 23H2 ISO is about 6.24GB, while the size of Windows 10 22H2 is 5.8GB. The former is 0.44GB larger than the latter.

If we now look back at historical data on the recent changes in the size of the Windows operating system, this growth process is even more obvious.

For example, Windows 10 version 1703 was less than 4GB in size, while the last Windows 10 version released in November 2022 grew to 5.8 GB.

Of course, Windows 11 is showing a similar trend. According to data from Windows Latest, the ISO sizes of the three versions of Windows 11 are as follows:

  • Windows 11 2021 (all editions) 64-bit – 5.7GB
  • Windows 11 2022 (all editions) 64-bit – 5.8GB
  • Windows 11 2023 (all editions) 64-bit – 6.24GB

At present, the increase in the size of Windows 11 23H2 can be attributed to a series of new features, such as a new version of File Explorer developed based on WinSDK.

The Win11 23H2 update also added a new “Home” panel in settings, which can display Microsoft 365 information through various “cards”, including current status and benefits. You can also directly access it from settings. Check out OneDrive cloud storage.

As Windows features continue to be updated, its file size naturally increases. But at the same time, a large number of users began to complain about the bloated pre-installed software in Win11.

While Microsoft is trying to reduce system bloat by splitting up apps like Movies & TV and Maps, it’s clear that’s not enough for these users.

Microsoft today released a new Windows 11 Canary preview version 25987. This version no longer comes pre-installed with the “Windows Maps” and “Movies and TV” applications.

Foreign media xda-developers believe that Microsoft deleted these two “traditional applications” that have existed since Win10, possibly to save system space.

▲ “Movies and TV” application, picture source Microsoft

It is worth mentioning that Microsoft has launched a new version of Windows Media Player last year for playing audio and video. This application is suitable for Win10/11 and claims to provide a more modern user interface, “rich artist images”, and support for picture-in-picture A mini player for drawing, as well as the ability to manage and play videos.

Therefore, Microsoft chose to delete the two pre-installed applications “Windows Maps” and “Movies and TV” in Canary Preview version 25987. It may also be because the usage base of related applications is limited and the basic functions have also been used by other applications. replace.

Microsoft recently updated the Win11 October optional update KB5031455 support document, admitting that in a multi-monitor environment, there may be a problem with Copilot on the taskbar. Due to this known issue, Microsoft has disabled Copilot for users on affected devices until a fix is available.

Microsoft has updated the known issue of KB5031455:

For Windows devices that use multiple monitors, after installing this update, when trying to use the preview version of Copilot in Windows, desktop icons may unexpectedly move between monitors, or other icons may not be aligned.

To prevent users from encountering such issues, the preview version of Copilot in Windows has been disabled in multi-monitor environments.

Microsoft is currently working on a solution and more details will be provided in an upcoming update.

Another known issue related to this update is an incorrect BitLocker drive encryption error being triggered due to a reported issue in some managed Windows environments.

Microsoft has been constantly improving the Windows Ink function, bringing many exciting new features and improvements to preview version users. Most recently, Microsoft pushed out update KB5031455 for Windows 11 22H2, which includes a much-anticipated feature that lets Windows 11 users use Windows Ink handwriting input in any input box and anywhere else they need to enter text.

Previously the handwriting-to-text feature was limited to certain apps, such as Microsoft OneNote, or special handwritten text recognition boxes. Now this feature has been expanded, especially for users with Microsoft Surface devices or other Windows tablets that support Windows Ink, which will have a positive impact on their productivity.

The Windows Ink feature is very simple to use, all you need to do is write in the input box with a stylus and then the handwriting-to-text technology will recognize the text and insert it.

The update also brings significant improvements to the handwriting recognition technology, which Microsoft says is “more accurate”. Users can also use more gestures to delete, select, join and split words. There’s also a gesture to split text into a new line.

For now, Microsoft is only offering these improvements for American English, though support for other languages is expected soon. The feature is being pushed out in batches and is expected to be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

There are two different lists of system requirements for Windows 11, one for Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2. Although the system requirements for Windows 11 haven’t changed much since the release of 21H2, Microsoft still updates them from time to time.

Microsoft updated this CPU list around May to include some new Intel chips, primarily Raptor Lake (13th Gen). Later, Microsoft updated the list of CPUs supported by Windows 11 in August this year, deleting 44 Intel Xeon server processors.

Now, Microsoft has once again added the Xeon E-21/22 series to the Win11 support list, but only the Xeon E-21/22 series has been added back, and the E-23 series has not appeared. A total of 10 E-23 series have been deleted. processor.

According to Microsoft’s officially updated list of deprecated functions/features, Microsoft will deprecate the Microsoft Entra cross-device synchronization function in January 2024.

Microsoft says that after January 2024, Win11 users will no longer be supported using the sync feature, but Win10 users will continue to have access to the user experience and all local activity history.

The description is as follows:

"Starting in January 2024, syncing Microsoft Entra user activity across devices is no longer supported.

Microsoft continues to store relevant data in the cloud, consistent with previous changes to Microsoft Accounts (MSA) in 2021.

After that date, it will be unavailable to Win11 users, but it will continue to be available on Win10.

After that date, Windows 10 devices save the user experience and all local activity history. Users can use the browser to access web history and access recent files through OneDrive and Office."

The Redmond-based tech giant announced a change from Azure AD to Microsoft Entra ID earlier this year, but Microsoft made it clear at the time that it would not make any changes to the service.

Microsoft official said: Microsoft Entra cloud synchronization is a new product/service provided by Microsoft, designed to meet and achieve the hybrid identity goal of synchronizing users, groups, and contacts in Microsoft Entra ID. It does this by using the Microsoft Entra cloud provisioning agent instead of the Microsoft Entra Connect application.

A new version of UUP Media Creator has just been released, designed to solve the critical issue of not being able to download all files and create a setup file for Windows 11 version 23H2 (Moment 4).

If you encounter an error creating this file, restart the uupdownload command, which will automatically download some of the missing files and will not redownload existing files, and then restart the conversion command with the new version.

UUP Media Creator consists of two programs: UUPDownload and UUPMediaConverter. This update involves UUPDownload.
