Microsoft has been constantly improving the Windows Ink function, bringing many exciting new features and improvements to preview version users. Most recently, Microsoft pushed out update KB5031455 for Windows 11 22H2, which includes a much-anticipated feature that lets Windows 11 users use Windows Ink handwriting input in any input box and anywhere else they need to enter text.
Previously the handwriting-to-text feature was limited to certain apps, such as Microsoft OneNote, or special handwritten text recognition boxes. Now this feature has been expanded, especially for users with Microsoft Surface devices or other Windows tablets that support Windows Ink, which will have a positive impact on their productivity.
The Windows Ink feature is very simple to use, all you need to do is write in the input box with a stylus and then the handwriting-to-text technology will recognize the text and insert it.
The update also brings significant improvements to the handwriting recognition technology, which Microsoft says is “more accurate”. Users can also use more gestures to delete, select, join and split words. There’s also a gesture to split text into a new line.
For now, Microsoft is only offering these improvements for American English, though support for other languages is expected soon. The feature is being pushed out in batches and is expected to be available to everyone in the coming weeks.
