Valve earlier launched its own Steam Deck handheld, and began to make efforts in the field of Linux-related games. According to phoronix, Valve recently hired famous open source Linux graphics driver developer Alyssa Rosenzweig to improve the Linux graphics driver and enhance the Linux gaming ecosystem, which is expected to prepare for the next generation of Steam Deck handhelds.

Valve has made huge improvements to the Mesa 3D driver over the past few years, and now that the Steam Deck is performing well and the RADV Vulkan driver is quite mature, they show no signs of letting up and are still refining the open source Linux graphics driver, so Valve is currently hiring a lot of engineers for that as well.

The company’s newest product is a new product that will be released in the near future.

Alyssa Rosenzweig is said to have done a lot of work on the Panfrost open source, reverse-engineered Arm Mali graphics driver over the years, and she has been working on Linux graphics at Collabora for the past four years. She has also been reverse engineering graphics for the Apple M1 / M2 SoC since 2021 and working with the Asahi Linux team to develop AGX Gallium3D code for OpenGL on Linux using Apple Silicon.

The company’s first project was to develop an open source Linux graphics driver for the next generation of Steam Deck handhelds.

The company’s newest product is a new product that will be released in the future. It is believed that her name is likely to appear in the acknowledgments of Steam clients or Valve games in the future.

Game developer Valve announced today that it will provide an “update-sized update” (regular volume update) for “Team Fortress 2” in 2023.

Updates include game items, maps, taunts, special effects, war paint and “who knows what else?

Legion Fortress 2 is a team-based, free-to-play online multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Wilford. The game, a sequel to Valve’s previous Team Fortress Classic, was first released on Windows and Xbox 360 platforms as an Orange Box triple-play on October 10, 2007. a PlayStation 3 version was released immediately afterward on November 22, 2007.

Taunts are a unique set of moves that each weapon type can perform. Most weapons also have their own special taunts; moreover, there are special taunts that can be equipped in the equipment menu.

Taunts can be performed by pressing the taunt button, and by default will perform the taunt of the currently held weapon. Taunts are often used to taunt enemies after killing them, to express victory, to anger them, or simply to liven up the game, and in most cases have no direct effect on the game; however, some taunts have special effects, such as the ability to heal, stun, or kill enemies outright. Taunts that deal damage are often called “kill taunts” by players.

Nvidia GeForce NOW cloud games are currently only playable through a browser on Steam Deck, but both Nvidia and Valve have expressed interest in improving the experience of GeForce Now on Steam Deck.

Andrew Fear, Nvidia’s GeForce Now product manager, confirmed that both Nvidia and Steam are interested in simplifying the GeForce Now experience on Steam Deck. “There isn’t a native app on Steam Deck to play GeForce Now,” he said. “I think, Nvidia and Valve, I think we’re all interested in making [GeForce Now on Steam Deck] better. But we don’t have anything on Steam. Announcement for Deck’s native app.”

Other cloud gaming handhelds, such as Razer’s Edge and Logitech’s G Cloud, already support the GeForce Now Android app for a better cloud gaming experience. As a Linux handheld, Steam Deck is indeed poor in terms of application adaptation. I hope that the plans of both parties can be truly fulfilled.

Elden’s Circle is an action RPG game set in an orthodox dark fantasy world. Walk into the vast scene and underground labyrinth to explore the unknown, challenge difficult and dangerous situations, and enjoy a sense of accomplishment when overcoming difficulties. Not only that, but the group portrait drama composed of the stakes between the characters on stage is not to be missed.

“Modern Warfare II” is the sequel to the 2019 reboot of “Modern Warfare,” featuring the iconic characters and themes of the original series, but packaged as a fresh story set in today’s world. The single-player campaign received mediocre reviews, but the multiplayer game received high praise.

High On Life, co-produced by Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland, is the most successful Xbox Game Pass game of 2022.

“High On Life” tells the story of an ordinary teenager fresh out of high school with no job and no ambitions, and an alien alliance invades Earth to turn humans into drugs. Now it’s up to the player to answer the hero’s call with a team of charismatic and talking guns and become the deadliest galactic bounty hunter in the history of the universe.

“High On Life” is priced at 163 CNY in the Steam country, and XGP/PGP member users can play for free on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows.

Steam Deck has been recognized by the market after its launch, not only due to its excellent hardware performance but more importantly, its supporting and relatively complete software system. A complete software system is inseparable from the support of the open source community, such as the Mesa graphics driver, Vulkan API, and Valve’s own Proton compatibility layer, all of which rely on the unremitting efforts of open source developers.

In a recent interview with foreign technology media The Verge, Steam Deck designer Pierre-Loup Griffais mentioned that Valve has paid fees to more than 100 open source developers to ensure the smoothness of various functions of Steam Deck run.

Griffais said that one of Valve’s goals in recruiting a large number of open source developers is to “coordinate all these projects” and promote the rapid development of Linux games from the overall architecture. Valve hopes to use its technical and financial clout to twist the power of open source into one place, making Linux an alternative platform for gaming on Windows PCs.

Steam Deck designers told The Verge that Valve does not intend to improve the next-generation Steam Deck’s functionality, but rather work to improve its range and display image quality. However, Valve may consider a major upgrade once the computing architecture has changed significantly.

Steam Deck designer Pierre-Loup Griffais said, “I think we’ll choose to keep this level of performance for a longer period of time and only consider changing the performance level if we have to see significant gains.”

Steam Deck comes with a custom Aerith chip, but many games don’t yet run smoothly. The system features four Zen 2 cores with 2.4 to 3.5 GHz frequencies and an RDNA 2 GPU with 512 stream processors from 1.0 to 1.6 GHz.

Steam Deck designers Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais said they are more excited about the improved endurance and display in the next Steam Deck handheld.

“Now that all Steam Decks can play the same games, our goal is to give users an idea of the level of performance they expect when playing games and for developers to know what they are aiming for …… Having a spec like this is valuable,” Griffais said.

While PC gamers may not be too happy with upgrades like Steam Deck, it’s actually a pretty normal practice in this industry to keep hardware specs up. For example, Nintendo has so far failed to launch the “Switch Pro” with an enhanced chip, but the Switch has been upgraded with a better OLED display.

Mesa 23.0 initially integrated Vulkan’s VK_KHR_present_wait extension this week. Hans-Kristian Arntzen of the Valve Linux team and VKD3D-Proton agree that due to current specification constraints it can only be added via DriConf option, while the new extension can be done on a per-game/app basis Processing, so they all think this is a very “practical” extension.

VK_KHR_present_wait was added in Vulkan 1.2.185 last year but dates back to 2019. VK_KHR_present_wait was designed by Keith Packard (Keith Packard). This extension allows applications to use KHR_swapchain while waiting for the current operation to complete.

VK_KHR_present_wait can monitor and control the pacing of the application by the number of images not yet presented. This can greatly improve the frame rate of the game, and Valve may deploy this expansion on Steam Deck in the future.

The problem with the VK_KHR_present_wait specification right now is that it lacks a surface query to check each surface for its support. This extension was hidden behind a DriConf option until there was a present-wait capability to query support on a per-surface-type basis.

During the recent Akadamy 2022 conference, KDE’s David Edmundson, when talking about the KDE desktop environment and the Steam platform, revealed that Valve’s handheld Steam Deck has shipped more than 1 million. In addition, Edundson’s presentation was the first official statement that Steam Deck was a very successful project for Valve and the Linux operating system.

The Steam Deck is essentially a handheld PC running on a customized version of Linux. in addition to the Steam interface, the Steam Deck has a fully functional desktop environment running on KDE’s Plasma, a popular Linux desktop environment.

The Steam Deck is still selling well, and Valve recently revealed that pre-orders for its Japanese launch of the handheld were better than initially expected. Valve also announced the most played games on the Steam platform in September, including 3A titles and indie games such as Hades and Cyberpunk 2077.

According to The Gamer report, Valve’s Steam Deck handheld is very popular. Demand is mainly driven by US and European gamers, but there is also a large and growing market – Japan.

Valve marketing representative Erik Peterson said in an interview at the Tokyo Game Show that the PC gaming market in Japan is growing faster than anywhere else.

Talking about the Japanese market, Peterson said that “home video game consoles are dominant in Japan, but the PC gaming market may be bigger than thought.” “In terms of market size, it is in the top 10 globally; but in terms of growth rate, it may even be the fastest in the world. The Japanese PC gaming space is growing rapidly.”

In the new week’s software and hardware sales list of Steam (September 26 to October 2), Steam Deck has won 18 consecutive championships.

Valve recently issued a document stating that it is accelerating the processing of Steam Deck reservations. Due to the continuous increase in the number of orders and the further improvement of production capacity, the orders originally expected to be processed in the fourth quarter have now been put on the recent production schedule, and players may not need to make reservations next year. After the manufacturer can ship.
