Suzuki recently displayed a new generation of Swift concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show, this car is called a concept car, but in fact, is already close to the production version and is expected to be officially released in 2024.

Swift was launched at the end of 2016 and received a minor facelift for 2020. The new-generation Swift retains some of the distinctive design elements of its predecessor, maintaining its original size and proportions. However, the entire body has been redesigned to improve aerodynamics.

The 2024 Suzuki Swift measures 3860 mm in length, 1695 mm in width and 1500 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2450 mm – figures that are almost identical to the current model.

Suzuki didn’t reveal much about the powertrain, just describing it as an efficient engine with low fuel consumption paired with a CVT transmission. Some foreign media spotted the car using a three-cylinder engine with a light hybrid system, which appears to be unrelated to the current 1.25-liter K12C four-cylinder. In addition to the electrified version, the new engine is also expected to be offered in a pure combustion engine version. There are also rumours of a “strong hybrid” version.

The production version of the 2024 Suzuki Swift is expected to debut in Japan at the end of this year, and it’s worth noting that since Suzuki is pulling out of the Chinese market in 2018, the new-generation Suzuki Swift will most likely have no connection with domestic consumers.

In Japanese news, the Suzuki Jimny is a popular small crossover for tuning enthusiasts, and there are many third-party body kits on the market. In order to follow this trend, Suzuki Brazil launched a 4Style model for Jimny, both sporty and luxury style.

The car borrows design elements from the Mercedes-Benz G-Class on the exterior, such as the same-coloured bumpers, wheelarches, side skirts and custom grille, and the car also features a black roof with an integrated spoiler, a new spare tire cover and LED taillights.

The car also gets a new set of 16-inch alloy wheels with a distinctive five-spoke design and a black colour scheme. The tires also differ from the rest of the lineup, with Suzuki Brazil opting for more road-friendly 215/70R16 tires, and the suspension and ground clearance remain unchanged.

Inside, the car features a premium-feeling fabric and leather seats with red accents and white stitching, as well as special carpeting and LED interior lights. Standard features include automatic climate control and a JBL infotainment system, but there isn’t any ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) system.

Despite its refined looks, the car’s power remains unchanged from the other Jimny models. the 4Style is still powered by the same naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine as in the other models, with 107 hp (79 kW / 108 hp) of maximum power and 138 Nm of maximum torque. It is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and comes with four-wheel drive.

The Suzuki Jimny 4Style is priced at R$203,990 (approximately RMB 296,560), which is considerably more expensive than the cheapest Jimny 4You. Despite the hefty price tag, Suzuki clearly sees some market demand for this special edition, as there are plenty of Jimny buyers willing to spend a lot of money on similar modifications.

Japanese carmaker Suzuki will start producing electric cars in India and export them from India to Japan as early as 2025, the Nikkei Shimbun reported Wednesday at local time.

According to the report, Suzuki is also considering supplying Indian-made electric cars to Toyota, which will be sold in the European market under the Toyota brand. Suzuki declined to comment on the Indian market, which currently has “a lot” of room for growth and lower manufacturing costs than Japan.

In terms of details, the earliest Suzuki EV to return to Japan in 2025 will be a small electric SUV in the 3-4 million yen range (RMB 147,000 – RMB 196,000).

▲ Pictured is the Suzuki eVX concept car.

After producing electric cars at its plant in India, Suzuki is also planning to produce light electric vehicles in Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan itself in 2026, “applying its experience in India to Japan”.

Maruti Suzuki (Suzuki’s subsidiary in India) is currently India’s largest automaker, and according to its latest annual report released in early August, the company’s long-term goal is to double its annual production to nearly 4 million vehicles by 2031 by launching all-new models and expanding exports.

As for Maruti Suzuki’s electrification transition, the company’s annual report reveals that production is well underway at its plant in the western Indian state of Gujarat, which is expected to start in the fall of 2024, with the first pure-electric model to be sold in 2024-2025, and six pure-electric models in 2030-2031. The plant is expected to have an annual capacity of 250,000 units and will produce fuel vehicles in addition to pure electric vehicles.

Japanese automaker Suzuki announced today that it will cooperate with Japanese flying car developer SkyDrive to produce flying cars in Japan. The two companies aim to start production around the spring of 2024. Carried out at the Suzuki Group’s existing factory in Shizuoka Prefecture.

Founded in 2018, SkyDrive grew out of CARTIVATOR, a volunteer group of aircraft and drone engineers. The company has previously accepted investment from companies such as NEC, Suzuki, and Kansai Electric Power. The short-term goal is to provide “air taxi” services at the Osaka World Expo in 2025. SkyDrive is currently conducting joint research with JAXA, Japan’s national aerospace agency.

It was previously reported that SkyDrive launched the SD-05, a flying car for personal sales, in April this year, priced at $1.5 million. The SD-05 is equipped with motors and propellers, can take off and land vertically, has a cruising range of 10 kilometers, and a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The aircraft can accommodate two people at the same time and is expected to be delivered to individual buyers after 2025.

In addition, Suzuki and SkyDrive reached an agreement in March to cooperate in the research, development and marketing of electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOL).

Suzuki Motor Corp. announced on Thursday that it will invest 4.5 trillion yen (currently about 235.35 billion CNY, $34.8 billion) in research and development and capital expenditures to produce pure electric vehicles (EVs) by fiscal year 2030.

Suzuki is known for its compact “light” vehicles, and the 4.5 trillion yen investment will be divided into two parts, with 2 trillion yen (currently about 104.6 billion CNY) invested in electrification and autonomous driving technology and 2.5 trillion yen (currently about 130.75 billion CNY) allocated to building battery electric vehicle plants and renewable energy facilities.

Suzuki Motor said that of the funds earmarked for electrification, 500 billion yen (currently about 26.15 billion CNY) will be used to invest in batteries.

Suzuki will launch its first battery-electric vehicles in Japan in fiscal 2023, including a small sport utility vehicle and a miniature “kei” car. With cost-sensitive customers in mind, Suzuki president Toshihiro Suzuki said he expects the new cars to be priced at about 1 million yen (currently about 52,300 CNY).

Suzuki plans to launch all-electric cars in Europe and India next year, and the first all-electric motorcycle globally. The company aims to partner with Toyota to capture a larger share of India’s emerging electric vehicle market.

However, Toshihiro Suzuki also said the company is not abandoning its hybrid and internal combustion engine vehicle lines due to concerns about charging infrastructure, the cost of electric vehicles and concerns about battery resources.

For India, Suzuki’s main market, the company expects electric vehicles to account for 15 percent of its vehicle lineup by fiscal 2030, while internal combustion engine vehicles using biofuels and ethanol as fuel will account for 60 percent.

Speaking at an event in Gandhinagar, the capital of the western Indian state of Gujarat, on Aug. 28, Suzuki Motor President Toshihiro Suzuki said the company will establish a global R&D company in India to further enter the Indian market and strengthen its competitiveness and R&D capabilities in India and other markets around the world.

India will become Suzuki’s electric vehicle hub. “India has become one of the most important markets for the Suzuki Group, and we will continue to invest heavily in India.” Toshihiro Suzuki said.

Suzuki will begin production of electric vehicles at its Gujarat plant in 2025. The company will also set up a separate battery plant in the state to produce batteries for its electric vehicles starting in 2026.

Suzuki will invest more than 104 billion rupees ($1.3 billion) in its electrification program in India, which will be one of Suzuki’s largest investments in batteries and electric vehicles worldwide. Previously, the company has invested Rs. 650 billion in India. “India plays an important role as the Suzuki Group’s global vehicle production center,” Suzuki said.

Suzuki Motor plans to launch an electric car in India by 2025 that is being developed in partnership with Toyota Motor. Suzuki will use a dedicated platform for compact electric vehicles developed jointly with Toyota to bring new products to market, which could include models including SUVs. The move will expand the partnership between the two Japanese automakers in India from hybrids to electric vehicles.

India is pushing automakers to produce more electric vehicles by offering billions of dollars in incentives to companies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said electric vehicles are starting a “silent revolution” in India, and the Modi government is taking action to boost the demand and supply of clean cars.

RBSA Advisors forecasts that the Indian electric vehicle market (including two-wheelers) will grow to more than $150 billion by 2030.
