Microsoft today issued a press release inviting Microsoft 365 Preview Experience members to test a new teleprompter feature for the Recording Studio feature in the PowerPoint for Windows app.

Microsoft said that by introducing the teleprompter feature, speakers can express their content more clearly and coherently based on scrolling caption alerts during video recording.

Microsoft says the teleprompter will be located in front of the screen, allowing users to maintain eye contact with the camera during video recording and deliver their messages more naturally and confidently.

Microsoft has invited Microsoft 365 users in the Beta channel to participate in the test, which requires the installation of 2306 (internal version 16529.20000) or higher.

Microsoft has introduced an important new feature for its PowerPoint for Web users. Starting today, all users of PowerPoint for the Web will be able to upload and save local videos to their PowerPoint presentations.

In a blog post, Microsoft noted that while users can already add videos to PowerPoint from online sources such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc., this new feature will allow those who make their own videos to upload local videos from their computers to their PowerPoint for the Web files.

Using this new feature is very simple, here are the steps:

Open a new or existing PowerPoint file for the web

Click on the Insert menu

Then click on the Video option

Then click on the Video option on your device

You can select the video you want to add to the PowerPoint file that is stored on your local computer

Finally, click the Open button to place the video in the slide

After placing the video in the PowerPoint slideshow, users can move or resize the video to their liking, and even apply shape effects.

Although this new feature supports a variety of video formats (.mov, .wmv, .avi, .m4v, .mkv, .asf, .ts, etc.), Microsoft recommends PowerPoint for Web users to upload videos using .mp4 format for best quality, and this feature caps the video size at 256 MB.

Microsoft announced that it will add automatic formatting features to bulleted lists in the web version of PowerPoint. Microsoft said that through automatic formatting, it will make it easier for users to edit text and improve user productivity.

Auto-formatting bulleted lists is all about making it easy for users to use keyboard symbols to use bulleted list symbols. For example, if the user presses the “*” character on the keyboard and then presses the space bar, it will be automatically converted to the bullet style “・”. In this way, the user does not need to remove the finger from the keyboard during the input process, causing the editing process to be interrupted.

The item list symbols corresponding to the keyboard symbols attached are as follows:

According to foreign technology media Windows Central, when users use the Microsoft Teams application, the shared PowerPoint Live presentation supports closed captions.

Microsoft makes it possible to add closed caption files to presentations when using PowerPoint for Windows and macOS. Teams users can share the PowerPoint document with meeting members, and these members can choose to turn closed captioning on or off according to their needs.

Closed captions are subtitles in TV programs or DVDs for viewers with special circumstances or needs, such as viewers who are hearing impaired, or who need to watch programs without sound. At this time, some explanatory language can be used in the subtitles to describe the program content. In addition, the situation where subtitles cover each other can be excluded.

Closed Captions (CC) is a standardized encoding method for adding text to an NTSC television signal. The text can be displayed on the TV’s built-in decoder or a separate decoder.

Microsoft is introducing a new feature to the PowerPoint app for Mac and Windows that supports closed captioning for audio files in presentations. This tool allows hearing-impaired users to access the audio component of PowerPoint.

Closed captioning on PowerPoint can be added to video projects on Windows and Mac. In addition, users on both platforms can add captions to their audio projects. With hidden captions, users who view presentations on Microsoft Office applications can better understand the content in the presentation.

It is also worth noting that users can also create hidden captions in a separate file in WebVTT format. This is important because it allows users to insert subtitles into their projects later.

The tool is currently live in the Beta channel preview on the following platforms.

  • Windows: version 2302 (internal version 16130.20020) or higher
  • Mac: Version 16.71 (internal version 23012902) or higher
  • iOS: Version 2.71 (internal version 23013100) or higher

Closed captions are subtitles for TV shows or DVDs for viewers with special circumstances or needs, such as hearing impairment or the need to watch the program without sound. In this case, the subtitles can use some explanatory language to describe the content of the program. In addition, it is possible to exclude captions that obscure each other.

Closed Captions (CC) is a standardized method of encoding text into the NTSC television signal. The TV’s built-in decoder or stand-alone decoder can display text.
