Microsoft is introducing a new feature to the PowerPoint app for Mac and Windows that supports closed captioning for audio files in presentations. This tool allows hearing-impaired users to access the audio component of PowerPoint.
Closed captioning on PowerPoint can be added to video projects on Windows and Mac. In addition, users on both platforms can add captions to their audio projects. With hidden captions, users who view presentations on Microsoft Office applications can better understand the content in the presentation.
It is also worth noting that users can also create hidden captions in a separate file in WebVTT format. This is important because it allows users to insert subtitles into their projects later.
The tool is currently live in the Beta channel preview on the following platforms.
- Windows: version 2302 (internal version 16130.20020) or higher
- Mac: Version 16.71 (internal version 23012902) or higher
- iOS: Version 2.71 (internal version 23013100) or higher
Closed captions are subtitles for TV shows or DVDs for viewers with special circumstances or needs, such as hearing impairment or the need to watch the program without sound. In this case, the subtitles can use some explanatory language to describe the content of the program. In addition, it is possible to exclude captions that obscure each other.
Closed Captions (CC) is a standardized method of encoding text into the NTSC television signal. The TV’s built-in decoder or stand-alone decoder can display text.
