Before the opening of the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, our frontline reporting team photographed a poster of the Porsche Macan EV model at the exhibition hall. The new car will soon announce its domestic price at this Beijing Auto Show. As a review, the new car is built on the PPE pure electric platform and adopts the latest family-style design language. It also continues the “Macan” naming that has long been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Can it continue to shoulder the heavy responsibility of Porsche’s sales in the future? Believing in the final pricing of the vehicle is critical.

In terms of appearance, the new car’s family-style design language is very recognizable, and the daytime running light style is very similar to its big brother Cayenne. In addition, the front hood of the new car incorporates a rich rib design, which can make the overall vehicle look more energetic. In addition, a wide spoiler is integrated into the front enclosure of the new car to interpret its sporty attributes.

Coming to the side of the car, everyone must be very familiar with the overall outline of the new car. It is similar to the overall shape of the fuel version. The rounded line design makes it have a strong “affinity”. In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car are 4784/1938/1622mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2893mm.

At the rear of the vehicle, the fixed spoiler extending from the roof of the Macan is “hidden” under the rear windshield of the pure electric Macan, and this time it has become an electrically adjustable rear spoiler. The lighting effect of the through-type taillight is very good, and the rear camera and electric trunk button are integrated inside.

In terms of interior design, after getting used to seeing various large-screen designs, this design is a bit “ordinary”, but Porsche still has a good grasp of the atmosphere, which can highlight a certain sense of technology and luxury. It is reported that the new car is equipped with PCM of the Android Automotive OS in-vehicle operating system, as well as the Porsche Application Center where third-party applications can be downloaded, more apps can be downloaded, and CarPlay mobile phone mapping is supported. The My Porsche app allows remote control of charging and on-board functions. All three screens can display relatively comprehensive information, including navigation, music, Bluetooth phone calls, etc.

In terms of power, the pure electric Macan will use the latest generation permanent magnet synchronous motor, with a front and rear dual-motor four-wheel drive layout, with a maximum power of 300 kW and a maximum torque of 650 N·m; the Macan Turbo has a maximum power of 470 kW and a maximum torque of 1130 N·m. In order to improve efficiency, silicon carbide is used as a semiconductor material in the rear-axle pulse inverter (PWR), which greatly reduces the conversion loss of the pulse inverter and achieves higher conversion frequencies. The lithium-ion battery equipped with the new car has a total capacity of 100kWh and is divided into 12 modules with a total of 180 square cells. The ratio of nickel, cobalt and manganese is 8:1:1. In terms of performance, the Macan 4 accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds, and the Macan Turbo accelerates in 3.3 seconds.

Thanks to the 800V technical architecture, the Macan’s maximum charging power can reach 270kW, and it can charge from 10% to 80% in as fast as 21 minutes. If the charging pile can only use 400V technology, the pure electric Macan will activate the “combined charging” function to speed up the charging process. The “combined charging” function effectively splits the 800V battery into two cells, each rated at 400V, which can be charged in parallel at a 400V charging station. In terms of battery life, the Macan 4’s comprehensive cruising range under WLTP operating conditions is 613km, and the Macan Turbo’s is 591km.

In terms of transmission system, the new model has been upgraded with an 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox, which provides faster shifting response in Sport and Sport Plus modes. Thanks to the powerful power and optimization of the transmission system, the new Cayenne GTS accelerates from 0-62 mph in only 4.4 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the old model, and can reach a top speed of 171 miles per hour (approximately 275.2 kilometers per hour) )/Hour.

In terms of interior, the new Cayenne GTS has also received upgrades. The new car comes standard with Porsche’s latest driver experience system, which includes a curved full LCD instrument panel. In addition, the new model will also provide a series of luxurious configurations including ambient lighting, Bose sound system, etc. The Coupe version will also come standard with a panoramic sunroof and an expandable rear spoiler. It is worth mentioning that the new model also provides passengers with the option of an optional co-pilot infotainment system.

For consumers who are looking forward to a pure electric version of the Cayenne, although there is no definite news yet, according to reliable sources, the Porsche pure electric version of the Cayenne is expected to be launched in the next few years. Previous reports indicate that the car will be released in 2026 and go on sale in 2027.

As early as 2022, Porsche CEO Obermaugh had already announced the existence of this new car: “We plan to add a new luxury pure electric SUV model to Porsche’s product line. The car will be manufactured at the factory in Leipzig, Germany, which will Further improving our position in the luxury car segment. And we are targeting higher-margin market segments, which will lead to new sales opportunities.”

According to the 2022 plan, this new car was originally planned to be launched in 2025 and equipped with some technologies of the Mission R concept car, such as a direct oil-cooled electric motor.

It was reported last year that Porsche said this new high-end pure electric SUV will be a larger and more luxurious product than the Cayenne, and is expected to compete with Land Rover electric cars, Cadillac electric Escalade or other large three-row Electric SUV competition. Porsche announced that it would recall some Taycan pure electric vehicles from 2021 to 2024, a total of 749 vehicles, because these vehicles have the risk of short circuit in the high-voltage battery.

Through data analysis, Porsche has discovered that some Taycan, Taycan 4S and Taycan 4 Cross Turismo models may have a high-voltage battery short circuit problem. In its 473 safety recall report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Porsche said: “The high-voltage battery in some Taycan vehicles may short circuit within the battery module, resulting in thermal runaway or even fire.”

The document states that a short circuit in a high-voltage battery will increase the likelihood of a thermal runaway event. The problem appears to lie in the production of high-voltage battery modules, which may be defective, leading to an increased risk of short circuits. According to the documents, the batteries in question were supplied by Poland-based LG Energy Solutions.

Back in 2021, Porsche became aware of a battery fire incident in a Taycan vehicle shortly after charging. By 2023, the company discovered “further suspected battery fires.”

The report states: “Although the source of the problem has not yet been fully identified, Porsche determined that the relevant vehicle had a safety hazard (manufacturer recall identification code APB5) on December 6, 2023. Porsche and the battery unit/module manufacturer continue to investigate and use Data analysis and hardware analysis were used. After further investigation and analysis, Porsche confirmed on March 13, 2024 that more vehicles discovered through data analysis and hardware analysis also had safety risks.”

Any Taycan vehicles produced after March 4, 2024 are not covered by this recall.

However, Porsche recommends that owners only charge the batteries in affected vehicles to 80% charge. In addition, the company said it will obtain vehicle battery data through battery testing or wireless methods. Porsche also mentioned that the replacement battery modules will be manufactured using an improved battery production process.

It is worth mentioning that last year Porsche also recalled 2,570 Taycan vehicles in China due to battery problems.

Porsche once again regained the title of the fastest mass-produced electric car at the Nurburgring. The Taycan Turbo GT equipped with Weissach kit ran out of 100 times on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, known as the “Green Hell”. It achieved an astonishing time of 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds, which was more than 17 seconds faster than the previous record holder Tesla Model S Plaid.

For reference, a Tesla Model S Plaid once ran a time of 7:25.231 on the 12.29-mile track. The new Taycan Turbo GT is a full 17.681 seconds quicker.

The Nürburgring is known for its bumpy roads, tight corners and tight track limits, making conquering the circuit no easy task. However, Taycan racing driver Lars Kern mastered the beast perfectly.

The record-breaking Taycan Turbo GT is equipped with dual motors that can produce an astonishing power of up to 1,019 horsepower and 1,339 Nm in a short period of time in ejection start mode. In standard mode, maximum power is 777 hp, while a new “Attack Mode” unlocks an additional 160 hp at the touch of a button for 10 seconds.

The optional Weissach package adds an adaptive rear wing and Gurney flaps, increasing total downforce to 485 pounds, and removes the rear seats, saving about 157 pounds compared to the Taycan Turbo.

The top-of-the-line 2025 Porsche Taycan accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 2.2 seconds without the optional Weissach package. With the option, acceleration time can be reduced to 2.1 seconds, just 0.1 seconds slower than the Tesla Model S Plaid’s claimed 1.99 seconds.

It is worth mentioning that Porsche’s powerful electric car only uses two motors, while the Tesla Model S Plaid has three motors. In other words, the performance battle is not just about the power itself, but also how the power is delivered to the road.

In 2023, Porsche’s global deliveries increased by 3.3% to 320,221 vehicles.

To continue its strong momentum, Porsche plans to launch at least four new or significantly revised models in 2024. The first new car to hit the market will be the highly anticipated new all-electric Panamera. It will be followed closely by the upgraded pure electric Taycan, which will be launched this spring.

Last month, Porsche unveiled the 2025 Taycan, which boasts longer range, faster charging and more powerful performance. This week, Porsche launched its most powerful production model ever – the Taycan Turbo GT, which has a maximum power of 1,092 horsepower and can accelerate from 100 kilometers to 100 kilometers in 2.2 seconds.

The much-anticipated pure electric Macan will also start delivery in the second half of 2024. These users have not even test driven this car. car.

In addition, updated versions of the Porsche 911, including a high-performance hybrid version, will be launched early this summer.

Thanks to rising demand for electric vehicles, Porsche is sticking to its electric vehicle sales target and plans to have 80% of its deliveries be pure electric models by 2030. Porsche is pursuing electrification with unprecedented intensity, including an electric version of the 718 planned for mid-decade and the highly anticipated all-electric Cayenne.

In addition, Porsche will also launch a new pure electric luxury SUV positioned above the existing Cayenne. The new car will provide a sportier driving experience and be built on the same SSP platform as the first pure electric Lamborghini model. Porsche CEO Blumer said the upcoming luxury electric SUV will be an “extremely sporty SUV.”

Although intensive new car launches may lead to a decline in profits, Porsche expects revenue to increase slightly to 4.0-4.2 billion euros in 2024.
