According to Nikkei News, Panasonic Holdings announced on September 12 that mass production will be in the second half of the 2020s and is currently targeting drones, etc. Small all-solid-state battery developed.

Panasonic Holdings said that if it can be put into practical use, it is expected to be able to charge 80% of the drone battery capacity in about 3 minutes. Convenience will be significantly improved compared to existing lithium-ion batteries that take around an hour to charge.

Panasonic Holdings disclosed its technology demonstration to the media and customer companies for the first time and introduced all-solid-state batteries. Although details such as the composition of the metal material have not been announced, officials say it is expected to be able to charge and discharge tens of thousands of times, which will far exceed the approximately 3,000 times of charge and discharge of ordinary lithium-ion batteries.

All-solid-state batteries are also highly anticipated as a new generation of on-board batteries for pure electric vehicles (EVs). For example, Toyota plans to realize the practical use of all-solid-state batteries as early as 2027-2028. Panasonic Holdings Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Toshio Ogawa said that if all-solid-state batteries are to be used in vehicles, they need to work closely with automobile manufacturers. “It cannot be done independently by one company, so it is inconvenient to comment.”

According to Bloomberg reports, Panasonic said, has been in a number of jurisdictions on cellular communication in the field of standard essential patents against millet and OPPO is expected to litigation will be carried out in Germany, the United Kingdom, the European Unified Patent Court and China at the same time.

Panasonic said it decided to file the lawsuit after years of bilateral negotiations with Xiaomi and OPPO without reaching a solution.

European Unified Patent Court (Unified Patent Court, UPC) official website found that OPPO was filed four patent infringement lawsuits, and millet was filed three patent infringement lawsuits, the total number of patents involved in the case amounted to four, respectively, for the European patent EP 2568724, EP 3096315, EP 2207270 and EP 2584854.

At present, domestic manufacturers have more or less encountered patent disputes when going overseas, for example, Nokia’s lawsuit against OPPO and vivo in Germany, which still has no clear result.

It is worth mentioning that in June of this year, millet group big appliances air conditioning department and Panasonic air conditioner signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two sides will establish resource sharing in the research and development, production and manufacturing of air conditioning products, forming a multi-level, multi-disciplinary strategic cooperative relationship. However, one size fits all, cooperation and competition still coexist.

Japanese electronics giant Panasonic announced Monday that it will liquidate its subsidiary that produces liquid crystal displays (LCD) to accelerate its transition to electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing.

Located in Himeji, near Osaka, Panasonic LCD supplies LCDs for automotive and industrial applications. Its factory will be under the direct control of the parent company, which Panasonic plans to transform into a production site for EV batteries.

By dissolving the subsidiary, Panasonic will forgive 580 billion yen of debt it owes to another subsidiary, thereby reducing its income tax burden by 121.3 billion yen. The loan will not affect Panasonic’s profitability, as it has established a loss reserve. Instead, the company raised its net profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2024 to 460 billion yen, up 73 percent year-on-year. This new forecast is 110 billion yen higher than the previous forecast, a record high. Panasonic’s forecasts for sales and operating income remain unchanged.

Panasonic began producing LCD panels in 2006, and its Himeji plant started making panels for TVs in 2010. But its profitability declined as price competition with South Korean and Chinese manufacturers intensified. The company centralised production in Himeji and focused on automotive and industrial displays, but decided to close the plant in 2019 and scale back its LCD business to selling only stock products. Panasonic posted losses in FY2011 and FY2012 due to the downturn in its flat panel display business, seen as a sign of overinvestment.EV batteries are a growth area, but also a highly competitive area for investment that will need to face challenges from Chinese and South Korean companies.
