In response to the market for “low-cost” NVIDIA graphics cards from brands such as Kanokee, Raiso, Granite, Publisher, Jetso, and Ice Shadow, NVIDIA says these brands are not partners of NVIDIA and have never done business with NVIDIA. Currently, NVIDIA is working with e-commerce platforms to clean up the sale of such “cottage graphics” goods.

The company is now working closely with major e-commerce platforms to make initial progress: Jingdong POP, Jindo, Jitterbug and Tmall have begun to clean up the sale of such graphics cards, Jingdong POP and Jitterbug have made it clear that merchants are no longer allowed to sell used as new, refurbished and falsely advertised graphics cards, and that some graphics cards with older RTX 20 Series, 16 Series and 10 Series models are no longer available on Jingdong and Jitterbug from now on. Jitterbug may no longer be sold on the platform shelves.

Nvidia said that regular graphics cards from Nvidia’s mainland partners (ASUS, Seven Rainbow, Kongsheng, Shadowcharger, Gigabyte, Image, MSI, Sotec, Renaissance, Zenith, MaxSun and Yingtong) are fully guaranteed from product quality to after-sales service.

Need for Speed 22: Unchained was officially released today, however, the game is running on RTX 4090 graphics cards with a rare problem that can not be resolved by updating the game and updating the driver.

According to EA, the game will run on machines with RTX 4090 graphics cards that will have display flicker problems, which can only be resolved by updating the card’s VBIOS.

But fortunately, NVIDIA has launched a fully automated VBIOS update tool for graphics cards, supporting Windows systems, allowing users to update the RTX 4090’s VBIOS with a single click.

Need for Speed 22: Unrestrained is a racing game produced by Criterion Games and published by EA, and the game supports simplified Chinese subtitles and voice acting. The background of the game takes place in the fictional Chicago lakeshore city, the game will be integrated with anime elements and more youthful, such as vehicle speed to a certain degree, will appear after the flame, smoke and speed line and other anime effects.

The game is based on a fictional Chicago lakefront city with a young and youthful setting, such as vehicle speed with fire and smoke and speed lines and anime effects. … For the minimum requirements, PC players need AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8600, 8GB of RAM, and AMD Radeon RX 570 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

Two weeks ago, NVIDIA and technical watchdog GamersNexus agreed on one thing: If the 12VHPWR power cable on your NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card starts smoking and melting, it’s probably because you’re not fully plugged in. But the PCI-SIG standards body is now recommending that NVIDIA and partners should take this into account when designing and manufacturing their products.

GPU manufacturers “need to take all appropriate and prudent measures to ensure end-user safety, including testing of reported problem cases,” reads part of the PCI-SIG’s statement. The organization also spends 49 words to disclaim its responsibility.

"We remind members that the PCI-SIG specification provides the necessary technical information for interoperability and does not attempt to address proper design, manufacturing methods, materials, security testing, security tolerances or processes. In implementing the PCI-SIG specification, members are responsible for the design, manufacture, and testing (including security testing) of their products."

The PCI-SIG created the 12VHPWR standard as well as all PCI Express standards.

In a tweet, Sasa Marinkovic, AMD’s director of game marketing, implied that the 16-pin connector was a fire hazard. Stay safe this holiday season,” he wrote, along with a picture of the two older 8-pin connectors AMD has equipped on its latest graphics cards, the RX 7900 XTX and XT.

ASUS even offers a custom version of the RX 7900 that has three 8-pin connectors instead of opting to embrace 12VHPWR. nevertheless, the new AMD graphics cards use PCIe 4.0 instead of 5.0, so AMD can still make the switch in its next-generation products.

PCI-SIG may also want to avoid those who might see the organization’s own upcoming changes to 12VHPWR cables as evidence that the standards body is to blame. tweakTown reported earlier this month that the new version of the connector extends the shroud on its four data pins. Admittedly, when comparing this minor change to the GamersNexus report on when and where cable burn-in might occur, it doesn’t seem like a slightly longer shroud would help much. What would help is a design with more sound and touch used to indicate that the power cable is plugged in tighter might be more appropriate.

As of November 18, NVIDIA says it has received about 50 reports of burned or melted power cords so far and has promised to provide replacements for anyone affected by the issue. No official recall has been announced yet. One buyer did file a lawsuit in California, accusing NVIDIA of selling graphics cards with “dangerous power cord plugs and sockets” that “pose a serious electrical and fire hazard to everyone who buys them.

South Korean media Quasar Zone recently conducted actual measurements on the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 “Ada” graphics card, and found that after reducing power consumption by half to 270W, its performance lost only 8%.

The default power consumption of the RTX 4090 officially given by Nvidia is 450W, but it will not reach this power consumption during actual operation. The foreign technology media TechPowerUp found after actual measurement that the actual power consumption of the RTX 4090 when running games is around 340W.

Korean media Quasar Zone reduces the power consumption of the RTX 4090 by limiting power consumption and lowering the core voltage. After reducing the power consumption to 270W (down to 60%), in its most active power ), the average loss in performance of the 5 AAA games tested was only 8%. Reducing the voltage of the GPU from 1V to 850mV is similar. In both cases, the performance penalty seems to be well-controlled, while reducing power consumption.

Several users have recently reported that the Nvidia RTX 4090 has the problem of burning the power cord, and Nvidia and its graphics card partners are looking for a solution.

According to the latest report from Igor’sLAB, Nvidia’s official investigation confirmed that there are two suppliers of 12VHPWR power lines for RTX 4090, and the problem is concentrated in one of the suppliers’ products.

Gabriele Gorla, director of engineering at Nvidia, revealed that the official 600W power cables bundled with all GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards are manufactured by two Taiwanese companies, Astron Kenshang Technology and NTK Corporation.

According to reports, NTK’s power cord has a better locking system, using a single-spring contact instead of Astron’s two-spring contact design. Astron power cables are said to have lower durability and higher resistance than NTK cables. Nvidia is doing tests to measure how the connection cycle affects the resistance, which should normally not exceed 2 ohms.

▲ 12VHPWR resistance/connection cycle

In addition, it is reported that Nvidia will use a dual 8Pin to 16Pin power cable for its upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which is the third version after the 3×8Pin of the RTX 4080 and the 4×8Pin of the RTX 4090. However, Igor confirmed that Nvidia will not be using Astron’s power cables in this case.

CapFrameX recently measured the AV1 performance of mainstream graphics cards at 4K and 8K resolutions. The test players include Intel Arc A770 graphics card, NVIDIA RTX 4090, RTX 3090 and AMD RX 6800 XT four graphics cards and the RTX 3080 test results provided by WccFetch. The test results show that the AV1 performance of the A770 is better than that of the RTX 4090.

The video CapFrameX used in this test is a video called “Japan in 8K 60fps”. To initiate a proper capture on CapFrameX software, the application entry “chrome” needs to be removed from the application’s ignore list to find an appropriate capture and provide performance results.

Also, while playing a video, right-clicking on the video pulls up a menu list and also needs to provide a click on “Stats for nerds” so we can see the stats.

Here are the stats for CapFrameX:

The first AV1 test results are the average frame rate per second and the 1% and 0.2% percentile FPS of the four graphics cards

While Intel was the leader in the test, delivering 60 fps, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 4090, and RTX 3080 all delivered the same 59.9 fps for video. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT came in last, delivering 55.8 fps, a difference of 4.1 to 4.2 fps on the 4K resolution 60 fps test.

The test results of the “Japan in 8K 60fps” video in 8K resolution are as follows:

The Intel Arc A770 graphics card still topped the charts for AV1 encoding, producing 59.9 fps in 8K video. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, 3090, and my 3080 came in at 57.6, 56.8, and 56.7 fps, respectively, suggesting that NVIDIA’s support for AV1 encoding is better than the last-place AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, which only managed 22 fps.

CapFrameX also provides Chrome AV1 8K video decode frame times, which shows that the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT emits huge spikes of over 800ms every 4 seconds of video. Meanwhile, the Intel Arc A770 graphics card held the lead during the test and improved slightly at the end.

Sam Croley, the core developer of the brute force password cracking tool Hashcat (latest version 6.2.6), in collaboration with security analysts from Austin, Texas, said that NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards run Hashcat to crack a certain password, which is twice as efficient as the previous generation RTX 3090 GPU.

With a graphics card array consisting of eight NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPUs, the password cracking time is reduced to less than 60 minutes, which is half of the RTX 3090. For a standard eight-character password composed of numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, and symbols, if only one RTX 4090 GPU is used, the time to successfully crack the password is 6.1 hours, not to mention that multiple graphics cards can be used to form an array.
Even crazier, it works against authentication protocols such as Microsoft’s NTLM (New Technology LAN Manager) or Niels Provos and David Mazières (the Bcrypt password hash function created in 1999).

While these numbers are mind-boggling, they’re also terrifying to think about the nefarious uses someone could use to assist in hacking other users, businesses, etc. The cost of such a quick crack is also unbearable. NVIDIA RTX 4090s are priced at $1,600 each (estimated including tax), and a rig working at that speed would cost over $12,800, not including the amount of power needed to achieve this feat.

Another note is that Hashcat is an offline password cracking tool. It is perfect for server and system administrators as well as network security experts. This realization does not mean that you are still safe on the Internet. Google has implemented several cybersecurity measures, including Apple, Microsoft, and others, as well as software security packages, to create reliable and harder-to-crack passwords. Unfortunately, we may use the same password on multiple websites and devices, which is very vulnerable.
