At 14:47 GMT on November 16, NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) lifted off with the Orion spacecraft. The mission, called Artemis 1, was an unmanned lunar orbit test mission to prepare for the subsequent manned lunar orbit on Artemis 2 and manned lunar landing on Artemis 3.

On Dec. 1 local time, NASA announced that the unmanned spacecraft successfully ignited its engines and began its return to Earth. The ignition began at 4:54 p.m. EDT and lasted less than two minutes, according to NASA live commentator Shaneequa Vereen.

“Orion made a successful ignition in a long retrograde orbit of 1 minute and 45 seconds,” Vereen said, adding that the spacecraft’s solar panels can be seen gently rocking back and forth during the NASA live broadcast, with a “tiny Earth” shining in the background. Vereen said.

Orion has now begun its 10-day journey home, according to the report. If all goes according to plan, it will return to the arms of Mother Earth on December 11, eventually crash-landing off the coast of California, where NASA and the U.S. Navy have already begun training for the recovery that will mark the end of the Artemis 1 mission.

Artemis 1 is a test of the SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft to ensure that both are flightworthy and can safely send astronauts into deep space and back.

If Artemis 1 goes as planned, the next mission, Artemis 2, will put astronauts in lunar orbit in 2024, followed by Artemis 3 by 2025.

So far, Artemis 1 has completed its mission, according to NASA. Project managers say the SLS launch demonstrates that the launch vehicle is fully compliant with expected standards.

“The first launch of the SLS rocket was nothing short of exciting,” said Mike Sarafin, Artemis mission manager. He added, “While our Orion mission is still in progress and we continue to learn as we fly, the rocket system has operated as designed and expected in every situation.”

“Artemis 1” is a key mission for a human return to the moon, but in this mission, all humans can get a benefit: send a message to the iPad stationed in the Orion spacecraft.

NASA is specially equipped with a camera for live streaming of information received on the iPad, so that you can pass on the information to others living on Earth in this way.

An important mission of “Artemis 1” is the unmanned testing of the SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft. And the Orion spacecraft was equipped with this iPad during a demonstration of Callisto technology, which is designed to test human-computer interfaces in space.

The hardware itself is relatively simple – it’s basically an iPad. but it’s not Siri they’re testing – it’s actually Amazon’s Alexa. iPad is just a more suitable piece of hardware to test. The goal is to see how a digital assistant like Alexa can make the lives of astronauts easier and more productive during deep space travel. They will also test Cisco’s Webex for audio and video calls.

Sending messages within Orion to be displayed on the iPad is simple, but may not be selected. Lockheed Martin – which is conducting the experiment – has the final say on which messages are and are not displayed.

Submitting information to be displayed on the iPad is as simple as going to the Callisto website and scrolling down to the “Send a message to Callisto” section. You can enter your message (up to 120 characters) as well as your name and email. If selected, your message and name will be displayed on the Orion spacecraft during this historic Artemis 1 mission.

NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) carried the Orion spacecraft into space. This mission is called Artemis 1. This is an unmanned flight test mission around the moon, in preparation for the follow-up, Artemis 2 manned orbiting the moon and Artemis 3 manned landing on the moon.

After 5 days of flight, the Orion manned spacecraft arrived at the moon on the evening of November 21 and took this photo near the back of the moon, 130 kilometers away from the lunar surface.

Orion is described as being nearly 270,000 miles (430,000 kilometers) from Earth at this point and will soon surpass the distance record set by Apollo 13. Previously, NASA believed that this would break the record for the farthest distance flown from Earth by any manned spacecraft.

Notably, Orion’s entry into orbit around the moon is a critical maneuver, as it marks a crucial test of the propulsion system, and NASA says the burn is the first of two operations required to enter a “distant retrograde orbit” (DRO) around the moon.

During the flyby of the moon, cameras inside and outside the spacecraft will record the scene, including pictures of the moon, Earth and Orion itself. “It’s going to be spectacular,” said Rick LaBloyd, the project’s chief flight director.

Orion was described as having performed four orbital correction burns on its way to the moon, but this time, its orbital maneuvering system engines burned for 2 minutes and 30 seconds, giving it an acceleration of more than 580 miles per hour.

Labroid earlier said the flyby would actually send Orion to a planned distant retrograde orbit so that it could consume as little fuel as possible.

At the start of the acceleration, the unmanned spacecraft was traveling at 5,023 miles per hour, 238 miles above the moon. Shortly after it began accelerating, it reached 5,102 miles per hour by the time it reached 81 miles (about 130.36 kilometers) above the moon’s surface.

Orion loses contact for a period of time as it passes behind the moon (at 7:26 a.m. local time) and then regains the signal at 7:59 a.m. NASA says it will spend six to 19 days in the DRO to collect data and allow mission controllers to evaluate the spacecraft’s performance.

Artemis Mission Manager Mike Sarafin said: DRO allows Orion to spend more time in deep space performing rigorous missions to ensure spacecraft systems such as guidance, navigation, communications, power, thermal control and more are ready for astronaut safety on future manned missions.”

A second engine burn will also take place in four days to send Orion into a distant lunar orbit before eventually placing the spacecraft in an Earth return orbit, said Flight Director Jeff Radigan. If all goes according to plan, Orion will set down in the Pacific Ocean on Dec. 11.

NASA announced today that, based on monitoring of Tropical Storm Nicole, it has decided to postpone the launch of the Artemis I moon landing mission to Wednesday, November 16, waiting to meet staff Safe conditions for returning to work.

NASA’s Artemis 1 lunar mission has been delayed several times, and the latest is scheduled to launch next Monday (November 14) from the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. But Tropical Storm Nicole was making landfall from Florida’s Atlantic coast, so NASA announced a two-day delay.

NASA said in an emailed statement on Nov. 8: “Adjusting the target launch date will allow engineers to meet the needs of caring for their families and families, and provide sufficient logistical time to be able to respond during tropical storms. Then resume the launch state.”

Artemis 1 marks the first launch of NASA’s giant launch vehicle SLS, which will launch a spacecraft called Orion into orbit far from the moon. There were no astronauts on the mission, but it was just a test for a follow-up mission.

After experiencing many fuel leakage problems before, NASA finally successfully completed the fuel test of SLS. As a result, it encountered hurricanes and tropical storms. It seems to be ill-fated, comparable to the previous James Webb telescope.
