Mozilla for Debian-based Linux distributions, in .deb format, launched Firefox Nightly installer. Mozilla Corporation today issued a press release, saying that Debian, Ubuntu Linux Mint and other Debian-based distributions, launched the. deb format Firefox Nightly browser installer to facilitate users to more easily install the above distributions. deb format of the Firefox Nightly browser installation package, so that users can more easily install in the above distribution.

One of the highlights of this update is the ability to install Firefox Nightly in .deb format using the APT repository, which is a significant change for those who use traditional binaries distributed as .tar.bz2 archives.

With Mozilla’s APT repository, users and administrators can install and update Firefox just like any other application on their system.

With the switch to the .deb format, Firefox Nightly is also intelligently optimized for the compiler, which can further improve performance.

Mozilla has strengthened the installation package files and enabled all the necessary security flags to ensure a safer browsing experience. You’ll also get the latest updates faster because the package is tied to the Firefox release process and eliminates the need to create your own .desktop file.

The following steps to set up the APT repository and install the Firefox Nightly .deb package:

First, import the Mozilla APT repository signing key.

wget -q https://packages.mozilla.org/apt/repo-signing-key.gpg -O- | gpg –dearmor | sudo tee /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/packages.mozilla.org.gpg > /dev/null

The fingerprint should be 35BA A0B3 3E9E B396 F59C A838 C0BA 5CE6 DC63 15A3

gpg –quiet –no-default-keyring –keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/packages.mozilla.org.gpg –fingerprint | awk ‘/pub/{getline; gsub(/^ +| +$/ ,””); print “\n”$0″\n”}’

Next, add the Mozilla APT repository to your sources list.

echo “deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/packages.mozilla.org.gpg] https://packages.mozilla.org/apt mozilla main” | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/ sources.list.d/mozilla main sources.list.d/mozilla.list > /dev/null

Update your package list and install the Firefox Nightly .deb package.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox-nightly

For those who want to use Firefox Nightly in a language other than American English

Mozilla in July this year launched a code-named “Supernova” (Supernova) Thunderbird 115 version, based on the Firefox 115 ESR version of the code base, redesigned the user interface and enhanced the performance.

For those who want to experience the new version, they previously had to download the installer and reinstall it. Mozilla has recently made an adjustment by providing an upgrade path from Thunderbird 102 to 115, so users can click through to complete the update.

Users wanting to update will need to do so manually by clicking Help > About Thunderbird to open a small pop-up window that lists the currently installed version and any available updates.

Thunderbird 102 users can see the 115.2.0 update and users will download the update after clicking on it, Mozilla has not officially released the new version of the changelog, but the actual test synchronization and other features are not online.

Thunderbird 115 features a three-column design by default, introducing a new set of icons, a new toolbar at the top, and a left sidebar, with improvements including:

  • Sortable folder mode makes it easy to move folders up and down in the sidebar.
  • Tab View is a new view of the folder pane.
  • Designed for “people who are used to modern webmail,” the Cards view simulates a mobile interface list with multi-line support.
  • Further improvements to the address bar include a new table view, an improved edit view, and more.
  • Accessibility has been improved by introducing keyboard navigation options and screen reader assistance throughout the application, and the Tab key and left and right arrow keys can also be used extensively for navigating email content.
  • Calendar design has been improved with new month layouts, improved day, week, month grids, and more.
  • Encryption and OpenPGP improvements, such as support for user-designed OpenPGP passwords.
  • Added OAuth2 support for Fastmail.
  • The minimum user agent is now sent by default.
  • New option to always show the system tray icon.
  • Remote calendars can now be reloaded individually.

Mozilla issued a press release in February this year that it would start a major reworking of its email client Thunderbird.

We plan to enable a new look and interactive experience in the 115 release in July, designed to provide a simple and clean interface for "new" users, with more customizable options through a flexible and adaptable interface to allow veteran users to maintain the familiarity they prefer.

Since early 2020, the development of Thunderbird has been handled by MZLA Technologies, a subsidiary of Mozilla, and has since transitioned to a community-driven project. The email client is now gaining popularity as the Firefox browser evolves.

Total Cookie Protection is one of Firefox’s privacy features, first introduced in Firefox 86 (not the default setting), then extended to private browsing mode in Firefox 89 (privacy mode is enabled by default), and further improved in Firefox 91 to prevent data leakage.

The Mozilla press release as follows.

By making Total Cookie Protection available to all users by default, Firefox now leaves Chrome and Edge in the dust when it comes to privacy protection. mozilla believes that while advertising is at the heart of the Internet economy, privacy protection for consumers should not be optional.

Total Cookie Protection works by creating a separate cookie storage area (Cookie Jar) for each website you visit. Rather than having trackers associate your behavior on multiple sites, you can have them only see behavior on a single site.

Apple’s Speedometer is an excellent web benchmarking tool. Apple today announced that it will work with Google and Mozilla to develop Speedometer version 3.0, which will provide a more accurate assessment of browser speed.

The three companies mentioned above are the vendors of the three mainstream browsers Safari, Chrome and Firefox, so the three-way collaboration makes a lot of sense.

Google said the goal of the three-way partnership is to “build a collaborative understanding of web performance to help drive browser performance improvements in a way that helps users.

Apple’s WebKit team added that the collaboration “will help us further improve our benchmarks and enhance browser performance for our users.

The three companies are using a “joint governance model” on GitHub to share work between their teams.
