Mozilla in July this year launched a code-named “Supernova” (Supernova) Thunderbird 115 version, based on the Firefox 115 ESR version of the code base, redesigned the user interface and enhanced the performance.
For those who want to experience the new version, they previously had to download the installer and reinstall it. Mozilla has recently made an adjustment by providing an upgrade path from Thunderbird 102 to 115, so users can click through to complete the update.
Users wanting to update will need to do so manually by clicking Help > About Thunderbird to open a small pop-up window that lists the currently installed version and any available updates.
Thunderbird 102 users can see the 115.2.0 update and users will download the update after clicking on it, Mozilla has not officially released the new version of the changelog, but the actual test synchronization and other features are not online.
Thunderbird 115 features a three-column design by default, introducing a new set of icons, a new toolbar at the top, and a left sidebar, with improvements including:
- Sortable folder mode makes it easy to move folders up and down in the sidebar.
- Tab View is a new view of the folder pane.
- Designed for “people who are used to modern webmail,” the Cards view simulates a mobile interface list with multi-line support.
- Further improvements to the address bar include a new table view, an improved edit view, and more.
- Accessibility has been improved by introducing keyboard navigation options and screen reader assistance throughout the application, and the Tab key and left and right arrow keys can also be used extensively for navigating email content.
- Calendar design has been improved with new month layouts, improved day, week, month grids, and more.
- Encryption and OpenPGP improvements, such as support for user-designed OpenPGP passwords.
- Added OAuth2 support for Fastmail.
- The minimum user agent is now sent by default.
- New option to always show the system tray icon.
- Remote calendars can now be reloaded individually.
