According to Montage Technology’s disclosed record of investor relations activities, Montage Technology recently said in institutional research, the company announced in September 2022 the industry’s first launch of the DDR5 first sub-generation clock driver (referred to as CKD chip) engineering prototype, and has sent samples to the industry’s mainstream memory manufacturers, the product will be used for a new generation of desktop and notebook computer memory.

According to the introduction, in the initial stage of DDR5, the UDIMM and SODIMM modules of desktop and notebook computers need to be paired with a PMIC and an SPD, and the CKD chip is not needed for the time being. When the DDR5 data rate reaches 6400MT/s and above, PC-side memory such as UDIMM and SODIMM modules for desktop and notebook PCs must use a dedicated clock driver chip (CKD chip) to buffer and drive the clock signals on the memory modules to meet the integrity and reliability requirements of high-speed clock signals.

Montage says CKD chips will be a new increment for the industry when the annual industry demand for CKD will be positively correlated with the number of DDR5 UDIMMs and SODIMMs (supporting rates of 6400MT / s and above) needed that year. Lantech plans to complete the development and shipment of mass-production versions of CKD chips by the end of 2023.

In addition, Montage Technology noted that the first-generation AI chip has completed the flow of engineering prototypes by the end of 2022 as scheduled, and a series of testing, verification and sample delivery will be carried out subsequently.

Montage’s fourth-generation Jintide CPU, with Intel’s fourth-generation Xeon Scalable Processor (code-named: Sapphire Rapids) as the core, passed Montage’s security pre-test (PrC) test, and is an x86 architecture server for the local market processor. Compared with the previous generation, the fourth-generation Jintide CPU adopts the Intel 7 process technology, with a maximum number of cores of 48 cores, a maximum turbo frequency of 4.2GHz, and a maximum shared cache of 105MB. The key performance indicators have been greatly improved.

At the same time, in terms of interconnection performance such as bandwidth, throughput, and delay, the fourth-generation Jintide CPU has achieved a series of breakthroughs or upgrades: UPI 2.0 is supported, the 4-way interconnection between CPUs is supported, and the rate is as high as 16GT/s; the memory type Upgraded to 8-channel DDR5 with a rate of up to 4800MT/s, 50% higher than DDR4, a single slot supports 16 memory sticks; supports PCIe 5.0, a single CPU supports a maximum of 80 PCIe channels, and a transfer rate of up to 32GT/s, which is higher than the previous generation Doubled to support higher-speed network cards, GPGPU cards and storage devices; the introduction of CXL 1.1 can support various accelerator cards and memory expansion, reducing the total cost of ownership of the data center while improving system performance.

The fourth-generation Jintide CPU has a built-in AI acceleration engine AMX (Advanced Matrix Extensions), which supports two data types widely used in the industry, INT8 and BFloat16, which can significantly improve the performance of artificial intelligence-related applications. The fourth-generation Jintide CPU also integrates four on-demand activation accelerators, DSA (Data Streaming Accelerator), QAT (Quick Assist Technology), DLB (Dynamic Load Balancer), and IAA (In-memory Analytics Accelerator). , which can realize the offloading of special tasks such as data analysis, cryptographic operations, data compression, and load balancing, and release CPU core computing power resources for key business applications, thereby improving the overall performance of the system.

At present, several server manufacturers have cooperated with Montage Technology to complete the research and development of server models based on the fourth-generation Jintide CPU.

Montage Technology announced that it is the first in the industry to launch engineering samples of the first-generation DDR5 clock driver (CKD or DDR5CK01 for short), and has sent samples to mainstream memory manufacturers in the industry. The product will be used in a new generation of Desktop and laptop memory.

The clock driving function is generally integrated in the register clock driver (Register Clock Driver) chip, which was previously used on the server side. As the frequency of DDR5 memory on the PC side continues to increase, a clock driver chip is required to ensure the integrity of the clock signal.

According to reports, Montage’s DDR5CK01 chip complies with the JEDEC DDR5CK01 standard, supports up to DDR5 6400 memory, and has a low-power management mode. The first DDR5CK01 engineering samples have been delivered to customers.

In May this year, Montage Technology also announced the industry’s first trial production of the second-generation DDR5 registered clock driver chip M88DR5RCD02, which supports a data rate of up to 5600MT/s and is suitable for big data, artificial intelligence, physical Data-intensive applications such as networking and edge computing.
