According to the latest news shared by Rose Young, CEO of the screen supply chain consulting company DSCC, Apple will not launch a MacBook Pro with an OLED panel until 2026 or 2027.

Speaking with Bloomberg Intelligence’s Woo Jin Ho in a webinar hosted by Bloomberg today, Ross Young said that Apple’s existing supply chain will need to be ready for at least three more years before it can put together a production line for large-scale laptop-sized OLED panels.

Ross Young believes Samsung Display is investing $3.1 billion in OLED production in Asan, South Korea (currently about RMB 21.328 billion), and says the facilities will be used to make OLED displays for the MacBook Pro’s 14-inch and 16-inch models starting in 2026.

Ross Young thinks it’s unlikely that the MacBook Pro will adopt OLED displays before 2026 when Apple’s supply chain is expected to have enough laptop-optimized OLED display production capacity.

Until then, Ross Young said, suppliers will focus on OLED displays for tablets, such as the iPad Pro.

The Times of India reported that after successfully attracting the landing of Apple’s iPhone foundry, the government is preparing to increase the investment agreement to attract MacBook and iPad assembly/manufacturing in the country, hoping to expand IT hardware. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme is close to Rs 20,000 crore.

India’s Ministry of Information Technology has proposed a revised Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware aimed at encouraging investment in manufacturing laptops, tablets, AIO PCs and servers, a government official said.

India has successfully tested the production of iPhones and will start producing other products such as MacBooks and iPads next, the sources said. In addition, the outlet previously reported that India’s Ministry of Information Technology plans to increase incentives under the PLI scheme, which may be announced in April 2023.

“We’ve had a taste of success in iPhone production because all of Apple’s top manufacturers — Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron — are now making billion-dollar smartphones here. Our next step is in the Other products such as MacBooks and iPads are produced in India,” the source told TOI.

The Ministry of Information Technology, the nodal sector that promotes the development of the electronics manufacturing industry in the country, has submitted a proposal to strengthen the scheme and the matter is now being handled by the Ministry of Finance and some other relevant departments.

The Times of India reported that the Indian government plans to increase the budget to 200 billion rupees and increase incentive support from 1-4% to an average of 5%. India’s 2021 budget expenditure is 73.5 billion Indian rupees (about 890 million U.S. dollars), but it has not yet attracted global PC manufacturers.

It is worth mentioning that India has a completely different policy for laptops than smartphones as they impose a 20% duty on imported smartphones whereas there is no such restriction for laptops as the category falls under ITA-1 which allows zero duty import. Therefore, compared with computers, more mobile phone brands have no choice, and they have to transfer their production bases to India to avoid high tariffs that affect competitiveness.

Meanwhile, the Economic Times reported, citing official data, that Apple’s suppliers in India, such as Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron, have created 50,000 direct jobs and nearly 100,000 jobs since the PLI program implemented mass manufacturing. million indirect jobs.

The Indian government is reportedly preparing to increase incentives to further seek production of products such as MacBooks and iPads in India due to the success of producing iPhones in the country, according to senior sources in the Indian government. Top sources in India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said the country is considering expanding the size of the Production Incentive Initiative (PLI) for IT hardware to Rs. 200 billion from the current Rs. 735 billion to further expand Apple’s manufacturing ecosystem.

We have seen success in producing iPhones in India,” the senior source said. Currently, all of Apple’s top manufacturers, including Foxconn, Wistron and PEGATRON, are producing billions of dollars worth of smartphones. The next step for us is to produce MacBooks and other products, such as iPads, in India.”

It is reported that India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a proposal to strengthen the “production incentive program”, while the Indian Ministry of Finance and a number of other relevant ministries are considering the matter.

India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology senior sources also said that the current “production incentive program” is not attractive enough, and the new enhanced program will provide more financial support, will certainly prompt companies to invest and manufacture in India.

The Indian government believes that allowing brands such as Apple, HP and Dell to have a broad sourcing base in India is critical to expanding and establishing their status as “global manufacturing centers. Apple, by contrast, has been cautious about making products other than iPhones in India.

Under the proposed new program, the target segments it would support include laptops, tablets, all-in-ones and servers. The program is expected to benefit five major global players and 10 Indian champions in IT hardware manufacturing.

The butterfly keyboard class action lawsuit is finally settling after a long drawn-out period. Citing foreign technology media Law360 reported that Apple plans to pay a $50 million settlement, and the motion has received preliminary approval from a federal judge in California.

Of the $50 million settlement, $13.6 million goes to pay attorneys’ fees, $2 million to pay litigation costs and $1.4 million for users to pay settlement administration fees, leaving the rest to be distributed to the members involved in the class action.

The keystrokes, which date back as far as 2018, cover customers in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Washington who complained that Apple was well aware of problems with the keyboard mechanism used on MacBook Pro machines between 2015 and 2019. The lawsuit alleges that Apple concealed the defect from consumers in order to continue selling the devices.

Apple introduced the butterfly keyboard on MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro devices in 2015 and 2016, claiming that the keyboard provided superior key feel and stability while also allowing for a thinner design. Soon after the Butterfly keyboards were introduced, customers discovered that they were prone to failure.

Thousands of users have experienced repeated key presses and problems with dust and other particles getting into the butterfly mechanism and causing the keys to fail. These complaints led to a huge controversy over the butterfly technology, and Apple eventually launched a keyboard repair program in June 2018.

The repair program only covered MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air models for four years, and Apple just replaced the Butterfly keyboard with another one, so some customers had repeat failures that ended up being no longer covered. For this reason, Apple’s repair program is inadequate, the lawsuit says.

Apple tried to iterate on the butterfly mechanism to make it more durable, but it went through three generations without solving the problem. Apple had to replace the butterfly keyboards with more reliable scissor-switch keyboards, with the company phasing out the last of them in 2020. All Macs now use the scissor switch mechanism and don’t suffer from the same problem.

Just a few days ago, Apple has refreshed its based iPad with a new design and upgraded hardware specifications. Alongside that, the brand had also released its new iPad Pro and Apple TV 4K. Now, the Cupertino-based tech giant is gearing up to release its MacBook Pro and Mac Mini with upgraded hardware specifications. The launch of this device will happen soon.

MacBook Pro and Mac Mini will launch soon

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported earlier this week that Apple would unveil macOS Ventura on Monday, October 24. Both the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros will be supported by the latter. According to rumours, the new MacBook Pro will use M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. The expert, however, does not believe that the two laptops will significantly improve upon one another in other areas. This is likely the main reason Apple doesn’t have separate events specifically for them.

Apple-macbook-Pro-M2

Gurman previously asserted that Apple was developing new Mac mini models based on the M2 and M2 Pro CPUs. There is every reason to believe that the new Mac minis will be released alongside the Mac Pro at this time. He added that Apple has frequently announced new Macs in November in recent years. For instance, it introduced three Mac models with M1 in 2020 and the first-generation 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019.

The M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs were introduced in the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in October 2021. With the addition of “bangs,” HDMI, MagSafe, an SD card reader, etc., they had a completely new design and set of functions. The previous time, in November 2020, Apple introduced a base Mac mini with an M1 processor. The business is still offering a more expensive Intel version with optional Core i5 and Core i7 processors.

Apple MacBook foundry Quanta posted revenue of approximately NT$27.289 billion in September, up 47% year-over-year

According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, Apple’s MacBook foundry Quanta’s September 2022 revenue decreased by 8.4 percent year-over-year, making it the only one of the four major notebook foundries – Quanta, Compal, Wistron and Inventec – to see a decline in revenue for the month.

According to the data, Quanta’s September revenue was NT$120.747 billion (approximately RMB 27.289 billion), down 8.4% from a year earlier and up 47% year-on-year, ending a streak of two consecutive months of record highs, but still standing above NT$100 billion.

Quanta’s cumulative revenue for the first three quarters of this year was NT$954.324 billion (approximately RMB 215.677 billion), up 20.7% year-on-year. The company expects revenue to decrease slightly in the fourth quarter due to the high base period in the third quarter.

In addition, MacBook shipments zoomed in the third quarter, boosting Quanta’s revenue to NT$382.076 billion (approximately RMB86.349 billion), up 41.3% sequentially and 46.1% year-on-year. Quanta shipped 15.6 million notebooks in the third quarter, up 26% sequentially, but down from 17.4 million units in the same period last year.

For comparison, in August 2022, Quanta’s revenue was NT$131.86 billion (approximately RMB29.668 billion), up 1.9 percent sequentially and 55.7 percent year-on-year.

Quanta previously said that July and August notebook shipments were above 5 million units, higher than normal, due to deferred orders. Now that the personal computer (PC) boom is down, shipments will be shipped as early as possible, and third-quarter notebook shipments will grow by more than 20% compared to the second quarter, with shipments expected to decline in the fourth quarter.

As the Mac completes its transition to Apple’s custom chips, the company last week changed the description of the MacBook from “notebooks” to “laptops”. Although both words mean ‘laptop’, they have a slightly different focuses. The Cupertino tech giant currently has only two Intel Mac product lines on sale, a Mac mini mainframe and a Mac Pro workstation.

Even so, Apple hasn’t answered the question – how exactly does the company define a “computer”?

According to 9to5Mac, there seems to be a gradual shift towards the “laptop” nomenclature for all user-facing products.

Apple’s online shop product pages, articles in the support knowledge base, and even operating system updates have begun to reflect this ‘branding update’.

Also for macOS Ventura, which is still in beta, when you set up a new MacBook Air / MacBook Pro, it will also be called “so-and-so’s Laptop” by default, rather than “so-and-so’s MacBook”.

While this change won’t affect people buying a Mac, it’s interesting to see why the company waited until this moment to change its mind.

After all, a few years ago, Apple questioned “what’s a computer?” in its iPad Pro campaign. (what’s a computer?).

That’s why many serious users are wondering what the difference is between a “Mac notebook” and a “Mac laptop”.

9toMac adds: Many PC manufacturers call their laptops “notebooks”, while Apple wanted to differentiate its MacBooks by calling them “laptops”.

Looking at the Oxford Dictionary, we see that laptop and notebook [computer] are the same words – a small computer that works on batteries and is easy to carry around.

Finally, in the era of Apple Silicon’s own chips, Apple has given its MacBook line a more industrial design philosophy.

For the high-end MacBook Pro model, for example, the company introduced a mini-LED display panel and new ports.

And with the MacBook Air line, the company has finally brought back the MagSafe magnetic charging port and a significant improvement in battery life.

Embarrassingly, after Apple brought such a great update to the MacBook line, many customers began to ask, “What’s the point of the iPad?”

The main reason for this is that the high-end iPad Pro tablet is likely to be priced at the same price as a Mac laptop, if not more.

Aug. 17 – Apple is in talks to produce the Apple Watch and MacBook in Vietnam for the first time, according to the Nikkei News, as the tech giant seeks to diversify its production regions.

Apple suppliers Lixin Precision and Foxconn have begun trial production of the Apple Watch in northern Vietnam, the first time the device has been made outside of China, according to three people with direct knowledge of the matter, the report said.

In June this year, Apple moved some iPad production from China to Vietnam for the first time ever, due to strict epidemic controls in and around Shanghai. In May, Apple CEO Tim Cook responded to the question of including more Vietnamese companies in Apple’s chain by saying that Apple was interested in working with Vietnamese manufacturers that met the company’s standards.

Market news, TCL senior management will approach Apple, the outside world believes that this move is aimed at trying to make its Huaxing Guangdian (CSOT) into the Apple supply chain. Currently, Huaxing’s biggest domestic rival BOE has been supplying display panels, including LCD and OLED, for Apple’s iPhone, MacBook, iPad, Apple Watch, etc.

It is reported that this time Huaxing photoelectric hope to start from the LCD-equipped entry-level iPad, MacBook and other products to establish cooperation.

In fact, Apple is very good at managing the supply chain, which includes the introduction of competitors to reduce supply risks while pulling down low prices, TCL Huaxing seems to be their still good force to hold BOE and even LG.

In addition, playing into the fruit chain is also invariably a quality endorsement, because of the huge sales and attention, Apple not only their own strict quality control standards, coupled with a large number of users to monitor, the manufacturers themselves also bring pressure and motivation.

Analysts predict that BOE will become the largest LCD panel supplier for iPad this year, while LG Display occupies the position of the first supplier of MacBook LCD panel with a 55% shipment share.

At WWDC 2022 earlier this month, Apple announced the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with the M2 chip, and since the M2 MacBook Pro went on sale, a number of media outlets have been testing the M2 chip’s performance and real-world tasks. In the latest comparison, the performance of many of the chips in the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook are shown in comparison.

A chart by Macworld shares Geelbench 5 results for all the latest processors for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The publication mentions that different clock speeds for temperature control may result in different performances.

Multi-core” on the left represents CPU performance, while “Compute” on the right represents GPU performance, the higher the score, the better.

The A15 Bionic is better than the A14 Bionic in the previous iPad Air, but the performance gap between the two is small, which may be one of the reasons Apple chose the M1 when it upgraded the iPad Air in 2022. The A15 Bionic in this tablet has to be downclocked to maintain proper operating temperatures, so it’s not as fast as the A15 Bionic in the iPhone 13 Pro.

The M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are the faster chips in the MacBook Pro lineup, and Apple will release a more powerful variant of the M2 chip in the coming months that will further boost CPU and GPU performance.
