Apple MacBook foundry Quanta posted revenue of NT$27.289 billion

Apple MacBook foundry Quanta posted revenue of approximately NT$27.289 billion in September, up 47% year-over-year

According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, Apple’s MacBook foundry Quanta’s September 2022 revenue decreased by 8.4 percent year-over-year, making it the only one of the four major notebook foundries – Quanta, Compal, Wistron and Inventec – to see a decline in revenue for the month.

According to the data, Quanta’s September revenue was NT$120.747 billion (approximately RMB 27.289 billion), down 8.4% from a year earlier and up 47% year-on-year, ending a streak of two consecutive months of record highs, but still standing above NT$100 billion.

Quanta’s cumulative revenue for the first three quarters of this year was NT$954.324 billion (approximately RMB 215.677 billion), up 20.7% year-on-year. The company expects revenue to decrease slightly in the fourth quarter due to the high base period in the third quarter.

In addition, MacBook shipments zoomed in the third quarter, boosting Quanta’s revenue to NT$382.076 billion (approximately RMB86.349 billion), up 41.3% sequentially and 46.1% year-on-year. Quanta shipped 15.6 million notebooks in the third quarter, up 26% sequentially, but down from 17.4 million units in the same period last year.

For comparison, in August 2022, Quanta’s revenue was NT$131.86 billion (approximately RMB29.668 billion), up 1.9 percent sequentially and 55.7 percent year-on-year.

Quanta previously said that July and August notebook shipments were above 5 million units, higher than normal, due to deferred orders. Now that the personal computer (PC) boom is down, shipments will be shipped as early as possible, and third-quarter notebook shipments will grow by more than 20% compared to the second quarter, with shipments expected to decline in the fourth quarter.
