The iPhone 15 Pro series claims to have powerful 3A gaming performance, and Apple seems to be interested in turning the phone market into a new gaming arena. Previous tests have shown that this model performs well when running AAA games such as “Resident Evil Village”, which once made people full of expectations for Apple’s entry into the gaming field. However, the upcoming “Resident Evil 4: Remake” for iPhone seems to have poured cold water on it. Tests found that the game does not run well on iPhone 15 Pro.

It is noticed that blogger MrMacRight recently uploaded a video to test the performance of “Resident Evil 4: Remastered” on iPhone 15 Pro, M1 iPad and M2 iPad. The result was that the performance of iPhone 15 Pro was not optimistic. . In the test, the game was run at 1560×720 resolution with MetalFX sharpening technology turned on. While the frame rate on iOS is capped at 30FPS, the iPhone 15 Pro frequently failed to hit that mark.

In some relatively simple scenes, the frame rate is quite stable and can be close to 30FPS. However, once entering combat or other more intense scenes, the frame rate will plummet to below 25FPS, or even as low as 20FPS, causing serious screen freezes, seriously affecting the gaming experience. Especially when aiming with a sniper rifle, the performance drops off a cliff.

Unlike “Resident Evil Village” which recently launched on iPhone, the iOS version of “Resident Evil 4: Remake” uses the default image quality and does not support custom settings. While some options remain, such as motion blur and lens distortion, the most anticipated ray tracing feature is absent, despite Apple’s previous efforts to promote its new chip’s ray tracing capabilities.

A big reason for poor performance could be the iPhone’s thermal issues. During the test, the temperature of the phone rose rapidly, resulting in frequency reduction and speed limit, further exacerbating the lagging phenomenon.

While the iPhone 15 Pro’s performance was disappointing, the M2 chip-powered iPad Pro ran the game well, with higher resolution and more stable frame rates. For Apple users, if they want to get the best experience after “Resident Evil 4: Remake” is released on December 20, it seems to be safer to choose iPad Pro.

“Resident Evil 4: Remastered” will be launched on the iPhone / iPad / Mac platform on December 20, requiring iPhone 15 Pro series phones, iPad (equipped with M1 and subsequent chips), Mac.

According to X platform source Tech_Reve, Apple replaced the main camera with a 48-megapixel 1.22μm stacked sensor (CIS) in the iPhone 16 Pro phone, and changed the pixels of the ultra-wide-angle camera to Increased to 48 million.

It is noticed that the current iPhone 15 Pro phone uses a standard 12MP 1.4μm sensor, and switching to a stacked sensor can expand the imaging dynamic range.

In addition, Tech_Reve mentioned that Apple also plans to use a 1/1.14-inch 48-megapixel 1.4μm sensor module for the main camera in the iPhone 17 Pro, and increase the pixels of the telephoto lens to 48-megapixels.

According to previous reports, Guo Mingchi mentioned in August this year that Apple plans to switch to a stacked rear camera sensor design for the entire iPhone 16 series. The relevant sensors are manufactured by Sony and are expected to be a double-layer (Photodiode + Pixel) crystal pixel architecture (2 -Layer Transistor Pixel).

According to a research report recently shared by market research agency CIRP, as of September 2023, 47% of the users who purchased iPhones directly from Apple’s official channels in the past 12 months Choose the Pro or Pro Max model.

In comparison, 40% of users purchased iPhone Pro or Pro Max models through operator channels.

Apple-iPhone-15-Series

At first glance, the difference between the two does not seem big, only a 7% difference. However, based on the price difference of 200-300 US dollars per iPhone, and Apple sells more than 200 million units per year, the actual difference in amount will be very obvious.

Citing the opinion of foreign technology media 9to5Mac, which believes that Apple cannot convert this advantage. In the US market, operators largely dominate iPhone sales.

According to previously released data from CIRP, only 21% of people buy directly from Apple, while 71% buy from their carrier.

CIRP notes that users who buy iPhones through carriers are no longer pursuing top-end models, and Apple has lost control of “accessory offerings, extended warranty options, and access to other devices, including Apple Watch, iPads, and Mac computers.”

Add all of these factors together, and they could cost Apple billions of dollars in potential revenue losses.

During its September earnings call, iPhone reported a record quarter. Despite growing sales, the average selling price of iPhones in the U.S. is declining. This isn’t the first time the iPhone has seen its average selling price drop, to be precise, it’s the second quarter in a row, amounting to the company’s worst performance so far in 2021.

CIRP shared data on its Substack titled “iPhone sales mix continues to drive average retail prices down.” In addition to the average selling price, the research firm also noted the weighted average retail price of iPhones in the United States. However, the full scope of the study does not include wholesale discounts given by Apple to retailers. However, the metric reveals the different iPhone models and storage capacities that end users are considering.

According to research, data from CIRP showed that the weighted average retail price of iPhones in the United States peaked at $988 in the March 2023 quarter. Since then, the weighted average price has declined for two consecutive quarters. Prices dropped $40 in June and another $30 in September. iPhone performance was relatively low compared to the previous year.

Currently, the average iPhone retail price in the U.S. is $918, matching iPhone performance in 2021-2022. The change in average price is due to older iPhone models. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are selling like hotcakes, as are the iPhone 14 Pro models. However, the iPhone 14 Pro models don’t perform as well as their predecessors, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.

The main change this quarter was in sales of year-old flagship phones that are being retired as their successors become available. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models accounted for 23% of total sales, down from 37% for the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models in the same period last year.

While iPhone average selling prices have been low over the past two quarters, it remains to be seen how the iPhone 15 series performs during the holiday season. This could significantly boost sales of this product range, deriving a new balance in average selling prices. However, these are just speculations at this stage, and device sales are likely to decline further in the next quarter.
