Market research organization CIRP recently released a report that the appeal of Apple iPhones to Android users in the US market has begun to decline. After experiencing a peak of 15% in 2022, it will begin to decline in 2023.

So among the 13% of users who switched from Android, which iPhone model do they most like to switch to? The answer is iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

According to the latest US new iPhone purchase data released by CIRP, the most popular model is iPhone 14/Plus, with 26% of Android users choosing iPhone 14/Plus during 2023. The screenshots is as follows:

Following closely behind is the iPhone 14 Pro/Max, accounting for 25% of users who converted from Android. This shows that users who have switched from the Android camp have little interest in buying Apple’s latest and greatest products.

What’s more interesting is that when it comes to choosing entry-level iPhone models, the proportion of Android users who will buy iPhone SE or iPhone 12 in 2023 is 10% and 8%, which is 2 times that of native iPhone users.

Apple will replace the latest iPhone 14 for retail store employees to make it easier for them to make sales, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Apple retail store employees use iPhones as terminals of sale (PoS), and those devices are currently the iPhone XS, which launched in 2018, but they are somewhat outdated, struggle a bit to run the latest iOS, and don’t have enough battery life.

Gurman noted that many employees complain they have to replace older iPhones multiple times a day, sometimes even in the middle of a transaction, and Vox Media’s Parker Ortolani replied on Twitter that he saw an Apple specialist change phones in the middle of a transaction when he visited an Apple store. A former Apple retail store employee also mentioned that they change phones two to three times a day.

The iPhone XS looks the same as the iPhone X, but has a better camera and a faster A12 bionic chip. Five years later, though, it’s clear that these devices are out of step. iPhone XS will be the oldest iPhone model supported by iOS 17, so it makes sense that Apple would decide to replace these devices.

The iPhones used as point-of-sale terminals in Apple retail stores come in special boxes, and last year with the introduction of Tap to Pay, some Apple stores began using them to accept contactless payments directly, and employees can use them to send receipts to customers for purchases.

It’s unclear exactly when the devices will be replaced, expects this upgrade to be done gradually around the world.

A hiker in California’s Angelus National Forest is rescued after using the iPhone 14’s Satellite Emergency SOS feature. first introduced in the iPhone 14 series in the U.S. in September 2022, through the Satellite Emergency SOS feature, users can send text messages to rescue agencies. Since its launch, it has immediately taken on the responsibility of saving lives, such as the rescue of two stranded women in Canada shortly after it went live.

Now according to a local ABC7 Eyewitness News report, the feature was used to allow emergency services to rescue Juana Reyes. She was hiking with friends at Trail Canyon Falls in Tujunga when the trail collapsed beneath her.

Reyes told ABC7 Eyewitness News, “We tried to contact 911, but our phones had no service. Fortunately, my phone had SOS satellite capability and we were able to connect to it. I don’t know exactly how it works, I’m assuming it’s satellite, so that’s how we got in touch with EMS.”

The EMS team released a video of Reyes being airlifted by helicopter.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department told reporters that this was the department’s third “iPhone rescue” so far this year. Reyes has reportedly left the hospital and is recovering well at home.

When in areas without cell service, the option to use emergency help via satellite will automatically appear on the iPhone 14 series.

Apple is now manufacturing and producing iPhones in India not only to meet its own market demand but also to export to various countries and regions, providing Apple with a more diversified global sales channel. According to the latest news, Apple exported nearly $3 billion worth of iPhones made in India in its most recent fiscal year.

India is now Apple’s second-largest iPhone manufacturing base in the world. Apple initially produced only the first generation iPhone SE in India, but as its talent pool and supply chain around the country gradually improved, Apple has increased its supply channels in India, increasing its production capacity to expand its models and gradually starting to roll them out to the world.

Apple’s production line in India reached a new milestone last year with the start of production of the iPhone 14 model. Apple already began mass production of the base iPhone 14 model in India last September, and it is expected that Apple will also mass produce the iPhone 15 model in India, which will be available this fall.

Bloomberg reports that exports of iPhones made in India doubled between April and December of last year. From April to December, Apple exported more than $2.5 billion worth of iPhones from India, nearly double the total exported in the previous fiscal year.

Foxconn Technology Group and Wistron Capital each shipped more than $1 billion worth of Apple’s big-name devices overseas in the first nine months of the fiscal year ending in March 2023, people familiar with the matter said. Apple’s other major contract manufacturer, Pegatron Corp. is expected to move about $500 million of electronics overseas by the end of January.

Apple does not announce or pay too much attention to the iPhone’s memory (RAM) size, one of the big reasons is that the iPhone was able to beat the Android competitors with smaller memory, in today’s easily 12GB, or even 16GB large memory Android camp, do you know how much the iPhone maximum memory?

Foreign media 9to5Mac has counted the memory size of previous iPhones, from 128MB in the original iPhone to 4GB in the iPhone XS, and the latest iPhone 14 is only 6GB.

The reason why Apple’s iPhone has so little memory and can achieve a smooth experience is mainly that the company manufactures both hardware and software, and precisely fine-tunes its devices to make them as efficient and powerful as possible. . One example was in 2019 when an iPhone 11 Pro Max with 4GB of RAM beat a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ with 12GB of RAM in a speed test. The tight integration between iPhone hardware and iOS makes up for the memory difference of more than 8GB. The same is often the case with iPads and Macs versus Android tablets and PCs.

In a press release issued earlier this week, Apple said that the satellite emergency help feature in iPhone 14 models will be available to more countries and regions next year. But Apple did not specify in the press release its plans for next year’s expansion.

Satellite Emergency Help went live first in the U.S. and Canada this November and requires iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 16.1 or later.

The service was made available to iPhone 14 owners in France, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom earlier this week, with some local emergency service numbers requiring iOS 16.2. The service is free for two years starting when the iPhone 14 model is activated.

Apple’s official support documentation states.

"1. in the United States and Canada, call or text 911. in France, call or text 112, 15, 17, 18, 114, 119, 191, and 196. in Germany, text 112 and 110. in Ireland and the United Kingdom, call or text 999 or 112. 2.

2. When calling or texting 15, 17, 18, 114, 119, 191, and 196 in France, 110 in Germany, and 999 in Ireland, you will need iOS 16.2 to connect to emergency services via satellite. The exact availability of these additional emergency numbers may also depend on your cellular network carrier."

The feature allows iPhone 14 models to connect to Globalstar satellites, enabling users to send text messages to emergency services from outside of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. Apple said it can take up to 15 seconds to send a text message via satellite under “ideal conditions with a direct view of the sky and horizon,” but foliage or other obstructions can cause a text message to take longer or not be sent. Apple said satellite connections may also not work in places above 62° latitude, such as Alaska and northern parts of Canada.

MacRumors reported that Apple’s emergency satellite help service will land in the United Kingdom as soon as December 13. The source said that British emergency personnel have been notified that calls made through the satellite emergency help function will be routed to local emergency service channels starting, December 13.

Apple’s Emergency SOS via Satellite service went live in the U.S. and Canada last month, and Apple said at the time that the feature would expand to France, Germany, Ireland and the U.K. this December.

Apple didn’t provide a specific date at the time, but December 13 seems reasonable now. It’s unclear whether this expansion will be limited to the U.K. or whether it will also expand to France, Germany and Ireland.

The iPhone 14 users running iOS 16.1 will have access to the emergency satellite help feature in supported countries and regions, and it will be available for free for two years. This feature allows iPhone users to make emergency calls outdoors using a satellite connection in the absence of a phone or WiFi connection.

According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, UBS on Dec. 2 lowered its iPhone 14 series production estimate for the second half of this year from 92 million to 76 million after Nomura and Morgan Stanley revised their iPhone shipments.

UBS expects overall iPhone production to come in at 53 million units in the third quarter, up 9 percent from UBS’s previous estimate, as overall iPhone production looks solid for both entry and high-end iPhone models.

In addition, UBS expects overall iPhone production in the fourth quarter to be 74 million units, 15% lower than UBS’s previous estimate, due to supply disruptions from Hon Hai and weak demand for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

UBS expects overall iPhone production to reach 230 million units in 2022, unchanged from last year and is expected to produce 53 million units in the first quarter of next year, down 29 percent sequentially and 10 percent year-over-year, according to the Taiwan media.

The iPhone 14 model has been given a high-precision X-Ray wallpaper by a designer named Basic Apple Guy, who shared the high-definition wallpapers for free on his blog, saying that it took months of careful polishing to create the high-precision X-Ray wallpaper.

He said, “The high-definition perspective views of the iPhone 14 series models are finally complete! This includes perspective views of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max. I’ve been working on this project for a few months and I’m very happy with the final result”.

He continued:

"One important design decision to note about the perspective of iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus is that it flips both backwards and horizontally. This is because the iPhone 14 case has been significantly redesigned to improve its serviceability.

Previous iPhones, and now iPhone 14 Pro, required replacing everything but the display if you damaged the back of the device; it was essentially a new phone. But in iPhone 14, Apple has introduced a protective aluminum plate between the display and the back of the device, making repairs on both sides much more efficient."

According to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers around the world will continue to offer same-machine repair for all four iPhone 14 models without replacing the entire device.

The policy went into effect last week, and Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers are now ordering parts to complete iPhone 14 series repairs in-store. Before the launch of the same-machine repair program, if the iPhone 12 encountered some specific problems that were difficult to repair, Apple would usually take the whole machine to replace the way, “same-machine repair” to put it bluntly is to give you a replacement part, where it is broken to replace where.

The standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models released by Apple in September of this year have a removable back glass design, which facilitates subsequent repairs. This is the first model since the iPhone 4S that can be opened from the front and back. This change does not extend to the iPhone 14 Pro models, which can only be opened from the front.

In the U.S., replacement batteries for any iPhone 14 model at the Apple Store cost $99, compared to $69 for previous models. Customers with AppleCare + can replace their iPhone battery for free, but only if the battery is less than 80 percent of its original capacity.
