MacRumors editor Steve Moser recently tweeted on X (Twitter), stating that in addition to the “HEIF MAX” option, Apple has also introduced The “JPEG MAX” option has been added and will be rolled out to the iPhone 14 Pro model.

The tweet as follows:

In addition to the "HEIF Max" option for shooting 48-megapixel HEIF format photos, the iPhone 15 series also introduces a "JPEG Max" mode that can shoot 48-megapixel JPEG images, which can further improve compatibility. Additionally, the 48-megapixel ProRaw mode is now called “ProRaw Max.”

It is also worth noting that not all camera modes support the full 48 million pixels. Night scene mode, flash shooting, macro and other modes are still limited to 12 million pixels. This limitation arises because these modes require faster shutter speeds that higher-resolution sensors cannot provide.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max currently supports three camera options:

Regular 12 million pixels, supports saving in JPEG or HEIF format

 12-megapixel photos in ProRAW format

 48-megapixel photos in ProRAW format

After the iPhone 15 series launch, Apple’s official website removed the iPhone 14 Pro/Max series of phones and lowered the official prices of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Currently, the iPhone 14 starts at RMB 5,399, while the iPhone 14 Plus starts at RMB 5,999.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are equipped with Apple’s A15 bionic chip. Both rear main cameras are 12 million pixels, and the front camera uses a notch design. With the advent of the iPhone 15 series, Apple has ushered in the era of smart islands for the entire series.

Although the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are equipped with the same A16 processor as the iPhone 14 Pro series, the overall quality of the latter is still stronger than the latest models. On the iPhone 14 Pro series, Apple has brought a smart island design, and the screen supports ProMotion adaptive refresh rate (up to 120hz), HDR display, True Tone display, and P3 wide color gamut.

The iPhone 15 starts at 5,999 RMB, while the iPhone 15 Plus starts at 6,999 RMB.

Apple announced today that it will begin accepting applications for the 2024 iPhone Security Research Equipment Program, which will provide security researchers with specialized Apple devices to more easily discover critical vulnerabilities in iOS systems.

Apple’s Security Research Program (SRDP) launched in 2019, and researchers have discovered 130 high-impact security vulnerabilities through the program. Apple said researchers helped it implement “novel fixes” to protect iOS devices.

Over the past six months, program participants have earned 37 CVE credits for contributing to improvements to the XNU kernel, kernel extensions, and XPC services.

Researchers participating in the SRDP are eligible for Apple Security Bonuses. Apple has awarded more than 100 reports from SRDP researchers and said that “multiple awards” reached US$500,000, with the median award close to US$18,000.

The iPhone 14 Pro research devices Apple provided to participants had special hardware and software designed for security research. Researchers can configure or disable iOS security protections in order to manipulate them in ways not possible with a standard iPhone. The SRD is intended for security researchers with experience working on iPhones and other platforms, while Apple is also making the device available to university educators who want to use it as a teaching tool for computer science students.

Apple selects a limited number of participants each year to receive research devices, with applications due by October 31, 2023. Selected participants will be notified in early 2024.

According to the latest research report released by the market research agency CIRP, the four iPhone 14 models in the US market accounted for 75% of all iPhones in the first quarter of 2023.

It’s worth noting that January to March is the second full quarter for Apple’s iPhone 14 series to go on sale. “These numbers are important to understanding Apple’s performance and we revisit them every quarter,” CIRP said.

The main contents of the attached report are as follows:

The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max were the best sellers with 22% and 24% shares respectively. The iPhone 14 came in third, accounting for 19% of the total.

The iPhone 14 Pro models jumped from 15% in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 22% in the first quarter of 2022, making them more popular than the more affordable iPhone 14.

Although the iPhone 14 Pro Max is still the highest-selling of all models, its share has dropped by 4 percentage points compared to the fourth quarter of 2022 (28%).

CIRP highlighted that the three-quarters share of the iPhone 14 series has increased from 71% for the iPhone 13 series a year ago.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in his latest tweet that Apple will launch at least one new color for the iPhone 14 in the near future.

Gurman’s tweet is as follows: “One year after the green iPhone 13 was launched, the iPhone 14 desperately needs a new color.”

Apple usually launches a new color scheme for the iPhone model at the spring conference. Summary of the new colors added by Apple in previous spring events are as follows:

In March 2017, Apple added (PRODUCT) RED special editions to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

In April 2018, Apple added (PRODUCT) RED special editions to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

In April 2021, Apple added purple to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini.

In March 2022, Apple added green to the iPhone 13 and Pale Green to the iPhone 13 Pro.

Foreign technology media MacRumors learned from multiple sources that Apple plans to invite reporters to participate in the new product launch tomorrow (March 8), and may launch a new iPhone.

Earlier reports said that Apple will launch yellow for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models.

Leaker Majin Bu claims that Apple plans to offer leather cases in two more colors for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max as part of its upcoming spring collection. New color options include Deep Violet and Golden Brown.

Investment analyst firm JP Morgan reported that iPhone 14 series models are performing better than their predecessors, and there are signs that since January this year, the number of users switching over from the Android camp is significantly higher than in previous years.

In a report to investors, J.P. Morgan noted that demand for Apple’s iPhone 14 is declining, but market share is higher than in previous years, based on Wave7 Research’s survey of sales to major U.S. carriers.

In the report, JPMorgan noted, “iPhone sales share among the three largest U.S. carriers (Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile) was 69 percent in January, compared to 70 percent in December of last year. But the performance was better than its predecessor, with 67 percent share in the iPhone 13 cycle; compared to 60 percent share in the iPhone 12 cycle.

JPMorgan continued in the report, “iPhone share across all three carriers remains above pre-release levels and has also grown seasonally relative to previous product cycles. Importantly, Wave7’s latest survey highlights significant improvements in the supply chain in late December and early January, particularly for the 14 Pro and Pro Max models …”

The report that a survey of 38 carrier sales managers found that more than 50 percent found that more users were switching from Android to iPhone than switching from iPhone to Android.

Apple CEO Tim Cook in the fiscal year 2023 1 quarter (2022 4 quarter) earnings conference call, hinted that Apple will continue to increase the price of high-end iPhones in the future.

At the meeting, someone asked Tim Cook how he saw the rising price of the iPhone and whether he would continue to push up the price of the iPhone in the future. Now the 1TB version of iPhone 14 Pro Max is priced as high as $1600 (currently about 10864 CNY).

Tim Cook’s answer to this is: The price increase is no problem. (The price increase is no problem. In fact, Tim Cook said, we’ll convince users to pay more.

I think users are willing to pay more for better features, and better experiences. iPhone has become an ‘essential part’ of people’s lives,” Tim Cook said.

Tim Cook did not officially acknowledge that he would continue to raise the price of the iPhone in the future, but he did not rule out the possibility of continued increases in the future. The iPhone 15 Pro series, which will launch later this year, will be equipped with a titanium frame, upgraded processor and camera, and a performance difference from the standard iPhone 15 model.

According to Apple’s software update release notes, iOS 16.3 RC fixes a problem with some iPhone 14 Pro / Max devices flashing horizontal lines on the screen when powered on or unlocked, and the software update is in the final stages of Beta testing.

Apple acknowledged the issue in an internal memo last week and said it was being fixed, but it’s not clear what the root cause is or how many iPhone 14 Pro /Max devices are affected. The bug fix indicates that this is a software issue and not a hardware defect, so iOS 16.3 will need to be installed when available to resolve the issue for affected customers.

Apple today released a preview version of iOS 16.3 RC to developers, and the official update is expected to be released to the public next week.

iOS 16.3 includes a number of new features, including the option to use physical security keys as two-factor authentication for Apple ID accounts, globally available advanced data protection for broader iCloud encryption, support for the new HomePod second-generation speakers, and a new Unity wallpaper to celebrate Black History Month.

According to foreign media reports, with the recovery of major foundry capacity, Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro series supply has also improved significantly, with shipping times for online purchases in major markets, have been significantly shortened, with some markets having dropped to less than 1 week.

Data from investment banks shows that in the 18th week since the launch of the iPhone 14 series, the average shipping time for online pre-orders of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the two high-end versions, has dropped from 18 days the week before to 7 days globally, while the shipping time for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus remains unchanged from the previous week at 4 days. Shipping times for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus remain unchanged from the previous week at 4 days.

Specifically, in key markets, the shipping time for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus online pre-orders in the U.S. increased from 3 days the week before to 4 days, while the shipping time for the two high-end versions dropped from 17 days to 5 days, a significant reduction. And for offline purchases, same-day pickup is basically available.

In the domestic market, shipping times for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max online reservations have both dropped to 4 days, compared to 17 days and 19 days respectively the week before.

In Germany, the shipping time for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max online purchases is still long, but 13 days is significantly shorter than the previous week’s 19 days, and the other two models are down to 3 days from 4 days. In the UK market, the shipping time for the two high-end versions is down to 4 days from the previous week’s 17 days, and the other two models are down to 3 days from 4 days.

From the investment bank’s report, shipping times for both iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max for online pre-orders in the U.S. market, domestic market and U.K. market are now lower than they were before the outbreak affected the major foundries.

For the dramatic reduction in iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipping times, in addition to improvements in foundry capacity, some analysts also believe there is a factor of seasonal demand changes, with demand gradually declining.
