According to the Korean media Naver report, Samsung plans to use a “water drop” hinge design for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, providing a softer curve in the folded state, thus reducing screen creases and reducing the risk of the screen cracking.

Samsung has been improving the crease area since the commercialization of foldable devices, especially on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, with a “U” shaped hinge design. In the case of the domestic OPPO Find N2, for example, the “teardrop” hinge design reduces pressure on the screen, and the crease is not particularly noticeable in the unfolded state.

Samsung acquired the “teardrop” hinge design as early as 2016, but it is not clear for what reason Samsung has not yet deployed the program.

Samsung today again launched “On the Fence” promotional video to encourage iPhone users to switch to Samsung devices. The series is themed on flirting with Apple, highlighting features unique to Samsung that Apple doesn’t have to attract iPhone users to switch.

The latest “On the Fence” promotional video features a man sitting on a fence and talking to a woman holding a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. The woman says, “I used to be like you, wavering on the line between Apple and Samsung.

The man lamented that he wanted to switch to a Samsung phone, but worried that other iPhone users would look down on him. But the woman said he should change the phone, his friends would be envious.

“When you take out the Galaxy Z Flip 4, your friends won’t leave you,” the woman said. She then hands the man a Galaxy Z Flip 4 and says how cool Samsung is. “I can get used to this,” the man said before jumping into the side of the fence representing Samsung.

Unlike Apple, Samsung has the habit of naming and teasing Apple devices in advertisements. Just this morning, a Samsung World Cup-themed ad mocked Apple for not offering a foldable smartphone option.

With the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldable phones, Samsung is expected to further expand its foldable devices, and the next target is foldable notebooks. Citing foreign technology media 91Mobile reported that Samsung has obtained a patent for a related technology that looks like an enlarged version of the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

This patent is somewhat similar to the Galaxy Book Fold 17 that Samsung showed at the 2021 SID Conference, but it is more slender in terms of aspect ratio, and it looks like an oversized version of the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The patent for the technology was published this week, but the filing date was several years ago, suggesting that Samsung has had such an idea for a long time.

As for the foldable laptop concept, the design favors flexibility, figuratively. The bottom half of the device’s display is basically used for the ribbon, from a virtual keyboard to other types of input, to a color wheel for photo editing apps, to buttons and knobs for music creation software, and more.

Sources say Samsung hopes to set its foldable device shipments at 15 million units this year with the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. However, the latest industry estimates show that Samsung may not be able to achieve this goal within the year.

Current industry estimates put total Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 shipments at 8 million units, which still represents a significant 13% increase compared to last year’s 7.1 million unit shipments. The forecast was made by Noh Geun-chang, who heads the Hyundai Motor Securities Research Center.

He said that including previous devices such as the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung will ship 10 million units for the full year 2022. Samsung may have revised its target based on market reaction and the broader economic situation. TM Roh, head of its mobile business, mentioned the new foldable devices at the Galaxy Unpacked event, where the company expects to sell more than 10 million foldable devices by 2022.

Samsung recently released the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 folding screen phones, which have now broken pre-order records in South Korea. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are outperforming their predecessors and have higher average daily bookings than the Galaxy S22 series.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 were pre-ordered in Korea between August 16 and 22, with a combined total of 97,000 units. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 exceeded 920,000 units in their first week of availability.

Previously the ratio of Galaxy Z Flip 3 to Galaxy Z Fold 3 sales was thought to be 7:3, with a slight balance of pre-orders in the first week of launch for the 2022 folding screen. 65% of pre-orders were covered by the Galaxy Z Flip 4, leaving 35% of orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

On average, Samsung averaged 138,000 Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 pre-orders per day during the first week in the Korean market. By comparison, the 2021 folding screen phone averaged 131,000 pre-orders per day last year.

What’s more, Samsung’s new folding screen phones are also seeing more daily pre-orders in South Korea than the Galaxy S22 series, which averaged 127,000 units per day in the 8 days after launch, down from the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4.

However, only time will tell if Samsung will be able to maintain this momentum and break sales records after the pre-order period ends. Back in June, it was reported that Samsung was considering selling 15 million folding screen phones in 2022, but that might not be enough to replace the Galaxy S22 series in the long run.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is priced from 12,999 yuan and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is priced from 7499 yuan. Samsung hopes that more than 50% of the Galaxy flagship phones sold in 2025 will be folding screen devices.

A lot of pictures warning. The Samsung Unpacked event is less than a week away, and the theme of the event is “Unfold Your World”, Samsung will launch many new products including Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy The event will feature a number of new products including Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Before the official launch, foreign technology media 91Mobile brought a detailed rendering of the new products.

Galaxy Z Fold 4

Since the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 instead of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, a 15% improvement in CPU performance is expected, according to a tweet by Ahmed Qwaider. In addition, GPU performance should see a 59% improvement, with the chip’s NPU unit performing 68% better than its predecessor.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is said to be equipped with a 4400mAh battery that supports a 25W charging head and the screen brightness has been increased to 1000 nits, although the source does not mention whether this value is typical or peak brightness. There is also no mention of whether that brightness level is for larger displays or for smaller ones, but a 120Hz refresh rate is certain to be possessed.

Korean media Naver has recently revealed the price of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in the Korean market. The 256GB model Fold 4 will cost the same as its predecessor at 1998700 KRW ($10,393.48), while the 512GB model will cost 2097700 KRW ($10,908.29). This means that the domestic price (12GB+512GB) will likely remain at $14,999.

Galaxy Z Flip 4

In terms of configuration, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, complemented by an 8GB RAM + 512GB ROM storage combination. The internal main screen is a 6.7-inch @ FHD+ resolution AMOLED with 120Hz high refresh support, while the external is a 2.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen.

The front selfie camera is a single 10MP camera, while the rear has a dual 12MP sensor. The battery is expected to be 3400 or 3700 mAh and support 25W wired / 10W wireless charging. On the software side, the Galaxy Z Flip4 will come with Android 12-based UI 4.x pre-installed and will be supported by major updates for years to come.

BGR notes that Samsung’s website accidentally lists additional color options for the Galaxy Z Flip4 (including 71 for the Bespoke custom version), but it’s unclear if pre-order customers will be able to take advantage of them. Previously, we already knew about Samsung’s four base colorways for the Galaxy Z Flip4, namely Graphite, Pink Gold, Bora Purple, and BLue.

Galaxy Watch 5 Series

The former, codenamed Project X, will be available in black or gray titanium and will offer a cellular version with LTE connectivity.

The regular Galaxy Watch5, codenamed Heart, corresponds to the standard Watch4 in 2021. this model is also available in LTE or Bluetooth versions, along with two case sizes (only the larger of the two is shown here), and a broader color palette than the Pro series. Both will run wearOS 3.5 with the One UI Watch 4.5 skin.

Citing Dealntech, the Galaxy Watch 5 is priced a bit cheaper than its predecessor, with the Galaxy Watch 5 40mm priced at €259 (Bluetooth only) and the 44mm version priced at €286. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro (Bluetooth only) is priced at €430, a significant price increase compared to last year’s model.

Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

The leaked spec sheet suggests that the Galaxy Buds2 Pro has a built-in 10mm driver, supports Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and includes multiple microphones on each earbud for optimal HD voice pickup and noise cancellation. Samsung is expected to use “intelligent active noise cancellation” technology on the Buds2 Pro, which blocks out more outside noise than the older Galaxy Buds.

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro will also allegedly bring 360-degree audio to provide a more immersive experience in supported apps. The source also mentions an IPX7 rating, just like the original Galaxy Buds Pro, which can be submerged in water up to 1 meter deep for half an hour. A single charge will bring 8 hours of playback time, with a range of up to 29 hours with the addition of the charging case. The charging case will be able to charge wirelessly as well as through its USB-C port.

The report speculates that the Buds2 Pro will go on public sale on August 26. They will be available in Zenith Grey, Zenith White and Bora Purple and will retail for €229 in Europe and $229 in the US.
