EA announced that it will launch a mobile game “EA Sports FC Tactical”, which is a turn-based strategy football game that will be launched in early 2024.

According to reports, the game will feature “interactive simulations” that will allow players to connect with more than 5,000 real football stars from more than ten leagues including the Premier League, LALIGA EA SPORTS, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.

This game is not “EA SPORTS FC Mobile” which was renamed from “FIFA Mobile”, but a brand new game.

“EA Sports FC Tactical takes a strategic approach to gameplay to create a new soccer experience that connects players to the world game like never before,” said Nick Wlodyka, senior vice president and general manager of EA Sports FC.

EA Sports FC Tactical will emphasize in-game strategies such as endurance and power management. Multiple modes of competition will feature turn-based gameplay, allowing players to attack, defend, move, and more. EA promises “realistic football action like never before.”

In addition, the game will support online friendly matches and online competitions, including level matches, league matches, etc. Players can train their stars to master highly-skilled moves, unlock perfect traits, and customize their teams with everything from stadium designs to uniforms and balls.

Nike recently announced a partnership with American gaming giant EA to bring NFT digital collectibles to sports games.

According to a Nike press release, the deal will integrate “virtual creations” from Nike’s .Swoosh Web3 platform into future EA Sports games.

NFTs are claimed to be unique non-fungible units of data stored on a blockchain that allow users to own, buy and sell digital goods such as in-game items or artwork.

According to CoinDesk, Nike .Swoosh released its first NFT sneaker collection last month and has already generated more than $1 million in sales. The platform was launched in November last year and is still in beta, and the partnership with EA will help promote the platform.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in November 2021 that NFTs could be “an important part of the future of our industry,” before saying a few months later that the company would not prioritize adding them to its games.

Nike said more details about the partnership will be announced in the coming months. This content is expected to be available in July, when EA will announce its FIFA soccer game successor, EA Sports FC.

According to the latest data from analysts Ampere Analysis, EA and Activision Blizzard are the world’s two largest third-party game publishers, but EA is currently in the lead.

Monthly active users on Xbox and PlayStation consoles from September 2022 to February 2023 show EA with a 15.9% share, followed by Activision Blizzard with 14.9%.

This was largely due to the strong performance of FIFA 23, which was played by players for 35% of the days in February, surpassing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. IT House notes that Call of Duty did not even make the top three, in fact, behind FIFA 23 was the MMO Final Fantasy 14 (31%) and the free-to-play game ProtoGod (30%) The latter doesn’t even support the Xbox platform.

Ampere Analysis gives the chart below, and you can see that Epic Games sometimes overtook Activision Blizzard for second place as well, thanks entirely to Fortnite. But Epic Games came in third overall for the period, followed by Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two.

Surprisingly, Microsoft and Sony are almost neck-and-neck, taking turns leading the pack. Sony’s growth was due to the launch of “God of War: Twilight of the Gods,” but the reason for Microsoft’s growth is less clear, as the only game the company released this year was “Hi-Fi Rush.

It’s worth noting, however, that since all of Microsoft’s first-party games are free to play on Game Pass, this may have affected the accuracy of the data.

EA Sports is set to sign a commercial deal with the Premier League that could be worth close to £500 million. According to Sky News, all 20 Premier League clubs have been made aware of the six-year deal, which is worth “around £488 million,” according to sources familiar with the matter.

According to the report, “A club executive said the deal would generate more than £80 million a year in revenue and includes EA remaining the league’s main partner and retaining its exclusive game licenses.”

Under the Premier League’s current deal with EA, EA sponsors several elements of the match-day experience, including the EA Sports logo that appears on the referee’s jersey.

The Premier League is integrated with FIFA’s largest mode, UltimateTeam, including Premier League player rewards that appear as special items in the mode.

The deal could be similar to the one the company signed with the Spanish soccer league La Liga last year.

EA’s deal with La Liga includes the rights to title all La Liga matches, “a complete rebranding of La Liga with EA SPORTS, including all logos, graphics, fonts and other visual elements,” and also provides “new in-game integration, broadcast highlights, and a shared commitment to support grassroots initiatives. The joint commitment to support grassroots initiatives”.

EA will rename its soccer game EASports FC later this year, ending a nearly 30-year relationship with the soccer organization.

EA insists its games will not change much despite the loss of the FIFA brand, and EA Sports FC said last year that “the same great experiences, modes, leagues, cups, clubs and athletes” would be included in EA Sports FC, thanks to more than 300 licensing agreements.

In a statement released to GamesIndustry.biz, EA confirmed that the series is coming to an end and that Slightly Mad Studios employees will be transferred to other EA Sports and racing game teams where possible. In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, EA confirmed that the series is coming to an end and that Slightly Mad Studios employees will likely move to other EA Sports and racing teams.

Slightly Mad Studios was acquired by Codemasters in November 2019 for $30 million, and as part of the deal, Codemasters acquired the Project Cars IP. Codemasters was subsequently acquired by EA in 2021, so the Project Cars IP was transferred back to EA’s name.

In a statement, EA said, “After evaluating the next generation of Project Cars and its long-term growth potential, we have decided to discontinue further development and investment in the franchise. Decisions like this one are very difficult, but allow us to prioritize areas that have the strongest opportunity to create fan-favorite experiences. We are focused on our strengths in our racing portfolio, particularly licensed IP and open world experiences, and expanding our franchises to be more socially driven by engaging the global community with long-term live services.”

The initial generation of Project Cars was released in 2015 and was widely acclaimed for its realistic driving experience. Project Cars 2, released in 2017, received similar praise, allowing players to drive 189 cars on 140 track layouts in 60 locations. However, reviews for the latest installment, Project Cars 3, declined after its release in 2020, with critics accusing it of abandoning the immersive experience in favor of an arcade style.

EA is known as the industry’s “studio killer,” cutting one or two game series almost every year and disbanding studios after acquisitions, and it looks like Project Cars and Slightly Mad Studios are next.
