Chrome is the mainstream browser product in the industry, and Google has been optimizing and improving its performance. Google boasted in its latest official blog that the Chrome browser (desktop and Android versions) has saved users 10,000 years of waiting for web pages to load.

In a blog post, Google discussed experience optimization with Core Web Vitals (CWV), a website performance metric in which the company examines millions of pages to define a common standard for fast, user-friendly web pages.

Additionally, Google updated its search ranking algorithm in August 2021 to take into account factors such as whether pages meet the speed and usability standards set by CWV.

Following these changes, Google says average page loads in Chrome are now 166 milliseconds faster. This may seem like a small improvement, but small changes can add up to have a significant impact on the network. By 2023, the project will save users more than 10,000 years of waiting for web pages to load, and more than 1,200 years of waiting for web pages to respond to user input.

Google also tracks the number of page jumps that meet the CWV requirements. The current satisfaction rate for mobile devices is 64.45% (previously 64%) and the desktop satisfaction rate is 68.39% (previously 67%). The Chrome data team expects fulfilment rates to reach 69% by the end of the year.

According to media reports, a dangerous zero-day vulnerability was discovered in both Chrome and Firefox browsers, with the tracking number CVE-2023-5217, which will cause a buffer overflow in the VP8 codec. There is already evidence that hackers are exploiting it. This vulnerability launches an attack.

The Google security team stated that the vulnerability exists in the WebM file format, which means that browsers including Chrome, Firefox, software such as Skype, VLC, and supporting software from AMD, Nvidia, and Logitech may have vulnerabilities.

Google has released Chrome 117.0.5938.132 update, and Mozilla has released Firefox 118.0.1 update, which fixes the above vulnerability.

Google is trying to eliminate third-party cookies, has been in Chrome 115 browser to promote Privacy Sandbox API, and the latest news that Google is developing a new API to provide stronger tracking capabilities.

The new API, which is now hosted on the GitHub platform, is called the Web Environment Integrity API, a new Web standard similar to digital rights management (DRM).

The API was developed by four Google engineers and has already been prototyped in Chrome, although no large-scale release has been announced or hinted at.

Google’s vision, the API can be applied to Chrome, Google Search and other Google services, and the API is a universal type, not only for Android devices but also for Apple iOS and other platforms.

The attached Web Integrity API introduction is as follows

Users often rely on websites to trust the client environment on which they run. This trust can assume that the client environment is honest about certain aspects of itself, keeps user data and intellectual property safe, and is transparent about user usage.

The goal of the project is to learn more about the person on the other end of the web browser, to ensure that they are not robots and that the browser has not been modified or tampered with in any unauthorized way.

The data will help advertisers to better count ad impressions, block social network bots, enforce intellectual property rights, stop cheating in web games, and enhance the security of financial transactions, the presentation said.

Microsoft launched full-size ads for the Edge browser when users used it to download Google Chrome in February this year. Now, Microsoft seems to be doing the same thing again, but with a new approach.

According to The Verge, when journalists in different parts of the U.S. and even outside the U.S. typed “Chrome” into the Edge browser, it instead generated answers that looked like the Bing Chat AI, but instead of Chrome, the content was an ad about Bing Search, with the headline “Bing: The Search Engine That’s More Than Just Search.”

Apparently, Microsoft has decided to advertise Bing through AI search answers when users use Edge to find information about “Chrome”, which is not a regular search result. When The Verge asked about the AI chat search results, Microsoft’s director of product marketing Jason Fischel gave an initial response, translated as follows:

"We often experiment with new features, user experiences and behaviors to test, learn and improve the customer experience. These tests are typically brief and not necessarily representative of what is ultimately or broadly available to customers."

After the story was published, Microsoft Jason Fischel sent back another response stating that Microsoft had removed the ad and that “the experience is no longer interstitial.”

While this particular interaction with Bing Search may have been turned off, it does suggest that Microsoft is continuing to experiment with more possible “advertising” methods to promote Bing Search.

I’m sure most people who spend a lot of time in front of their computers have a bunch of handy keyboard shortcuts, such as Ctrl + W to close the currently active tab/tab in Chrome for Windows. Of course, you can also press the middle mouse button on the tab that needs to be closed.

But now, there’s evidence that Google is about to introduce a new shortcut that will allow you to close a tab with a double mouse click.

@Leopeva64 shared that he found a shortcut in Chromium Gerrit that allows users to close tabs with a simple double-click, which is not common in Chrome, and it could even be argued that Chrome is following in the footsteps of Microsoft Edge.

At the end of 2020, a user requested that Microsoft add this feature to Edge, but it wasn’t added to Edge until 113 weeks after the request remained on its to-do list, or eight months ago.

Of course, you can now install a similar Chrome extension that also closes tabs with a “double-click,” and you can even choose to double-right-click, double-middle-click, or left-click three times to do so, so if you want to double-click to close tabs but don’t want to install a plug-in, then hopefully this new Chrome feature will help. If you want to double-click to close tabs but don’t want to install plug-ins, then hopefully this new Chrome feature will help you.

Google brought several new features to Chrome in version 101 this April, such as adding comments to desktop save passwords, tab group saving, and an experimental new download UI.

Since then, you’ll be able to save a lot of tabs as tab groups in the browser, making its interface more concise and helping to improve productivity.

Google Chrome

However, the tab-saving feature has many shortcomings, such as losing it when you restart the browser.

Now, Google has finally introduced the ability to save tab groups locally as bookmarks for Chrome Canary. For now, however, most users may need to enable it manually on the chrome://flags page at

  • Open chrome://flags/#tab-groups-save from Chrome’s address bar.
  • Set the status of the experimental feature to Enabled.
  • Restart Chrome.

After restarting, when you right-click on the tab group you will see an option to “Save group” and when you choose to toggle the save feature, this group of tabs will be added to the browser’s bookmarks bar.

In addition, you can now choose to close entire groups or individual tabs in the tab bar without losing any information.

As of now, the feature is expected to be part of Chrome v110, but some Reddit users have speculated that the Chromium team might merge it with version 108 or 109 so that it’s available on more users’ computers sooner rather than later.
