Global January browser war: Chrome share of 65.4% stable first, Firefox continues to be eroded

Research firm statcounter has released its January month 2023 report, revealing the latest statistics about browsers.

Across all platforms, Chrome ranked first in January with a 65.4 percent global market share, up 0.72 percent from the previous month’s 64.68 percent market share; Safari ranked second with an 18.71 percent share, up 0.42 percent from the previous month; Edge ranked third with 4.46 percent share, up 0.23 percent from the previous month; and finally, Firefox ranked fourth with 3 percent share, down 0.01 percent from the previous month. Finally, Firefox ranked fourth with 3% share, down 0.01% from the previous month. Samsung, Opera, UC Browser and other browsers split the remaining market share.

On the desktop side, Chrome ranked first with 66.39% global market share in January, up 0.25% from 66.14% last month; Edge ranked second with 11.09% share, up 0.11% from last month; Safari ranked third with 9.33% share, up 0.32% from last month; and finally, Firefox ranked fourth with 6.87% share, down 0.34% from last month. Opera, 360 Safe Browser, IE and other browsers share the remaining market share.

From December 2019 to January 2023, the overall share of Microsoft Edge browser as a dark horse steadily rose to 11.09%, while Firefox Firefox browser has seen a significant share decline, from about 10% in early 2020 to the current 6.87%.

On the mobile side, Chrome ranked first with 65.35% global market share in January, up 1.04% from 64.31% last month; Safari ranked second with 24.45% share, up 0.90% from last month; Samsung ranked third with 4.46% share, down 0.60% from last month; and finally, Opera ranked fourth with 1.78% share, up 0.14% from last month. UC browser, Android browser, Firefox and other browsers share the remaining market share.
