BMW said that although sales of electric vehicles have declined due to weak global demand, at the same time, its 7 Series sedan, X7 full-size SUV and Rolls-Royce Specter and other high-end electric vehicles will drive the company’s profit growth this year.

According to Bloomberg, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said in an interview that the company believes that sales in major regions such as North America, China and Europe will increase slightly this year, and is quite optimistic about the high-end pure electric vehicle market.

Oliver Zipse said that in 2023, BMW’s pure electric model deliveries will account for about 15% of its total deliveries, and the company’s goal is to achieve sales of 500,000 electric vehicles this year through its 15 pure electric models.

Note: Currently, the BMW brand has launched i3, iX3, iX1, i5, i7 and other electric vehicles. Based on the above information, BMW is expected to launch a pure electric full-size SUV – iX7 this year.

BMW Chief Financial Officer Walter Myrtle said that with the new Neue Klasse platform, the company aims to reduce battery costs to half of the current level and increase cruising range by 30%.

In 2023, the BMW Group delivered a total of 375,716 purely electric vehicles to customers (2022: 215,752 vehicles / +74.1%), accounting for around 15% of total sales.

According to blogger “Electric Shopkeeper”, in an online interview after the release of BMW’s new generation X concept car, BMW Group Chairman Oliver Zipse repeatedly talked about issues related to BMW’s electrification road. Oliver Zipse mentioned that the overall sales volume of BMW Group’s electric models in 2023 has exceeded 100,000, and 11 pure electric models will continue to be launched in 2024.

Oliver Zipse also revealed that many of the designs and concepts on the concept car launched today will be simultaneously applied to a variety of new cars, including pure electric and fuel vehicles.

Used batteries in electric cars are lasting far longer than critics and consumers expected, according to new data from Recurrent Auto. This data shatters the misconceptions and concerns many people have about electric car batteries.

Recurrent Auto surveyed more than 15,000 electric vehicle owners to collect the most detailed battery health data ever, and the results show that electric vehicle batteries are lasting much longer than thought. Of this large group of owners, only 1.5 percent had their batteries replaced without a recall or expired warranty, most of which were older Nissan LEAFs lacking liquid-cooled battery temperature control systems.

Recurrent Auto’s survey covered 13 models, including the Tesla Model S, Model 3 and Model Y; the Chevrolet Bolt, Bolt EUV and Volt; the Hyundai Kona; the BMW i3; the Audi e-tron; the Nissan LEAF; the Hyundai Kona and IONIQ 5; and the Ford Mustang Mach -E.

In addition to the few owners who were forced to replace their batteries, Recurrent Auto found that battery degradation was not linear. From each survey group, while electric vehicle range peaks in the 10,000 to 20,000 mile range, the battery decays quickly and then plateaus as the range approaches 100,000 miles.

Recurrent Auto attributes this to two key technologies: battery management systems and battery temperature control systems, both of which have dramatically improved battery life. These systems not only allow owners to limit the amount of battery charge, thereby reducing damage to battery health, but also ensure that the battery is always operating at a safe and “healthy” temperature.

Perhaps the most favorable target of Recurrent Auto’s data is the used electric vehicle market, which many consider to be a risky market. But Recurrent Auto’s data shows that people don’t have to worry about the battery health of the used electric vehicles they want to buy.

A model born amidst controversy, BMW has finally announced the discontinuation of the BMW i3 electric car after 250,000 units have been built. As BMW’s first mass-produced “premium compact” electric car, the BMW i3 debuted in 2013. But after six months of production in Leipzig, Germany (and a year of discontinued sales in the U.S.), the model has finally come to its end.

The 250,000th BMW i3 in black rolled off the production line with no special features compared to the limited special edition that preceded its official discontinuation. Even so, BMW officials claim it to be the most popular tram in the “Premium Compact” segment.

Although it quickly divided people into love and hate groups initially, the BMW i3, which is sold in more than 74 regions, has attracted about 80 percent of new customers to embrace the brand.

To round off the discontinuation, BMW has created 10 special i3S-based HomeRun models (all sold) with a matte gray/red exterior, bronze accents on the grille and tailgate, and a leather dashboard interior.

Finally, after the BMW i3 is discontinued, BMW will focus on other models, such as the new 7 Series and XM SUV.

At the same time, other brands are also trying to invest more in concept electric models, such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Honda Honda E.
