Samsung announced its earnings guidance for the first quarter of 2024 on Friday, saying that with the help of the AI wave, the company’s revenue has begun to rebound from a severe decline. It is estimated that Sales reached 71 trillion won (Note: currently approximately 381.27 billion RMB), and operating profit during the same period was approximately 6.6 trillion won (currently approximately 35.442 billion RMB).

Earnings Forecast: In financial reporting, earnings guidance, or simply guidance, is a publicly traded company’s official forecast of its own near-term profits and losses, expressed as a dollar amount per share.

Compared to Q1 2023, sales are estimated to rise 11.37% and operating profit growth is estimated to hit 931%. Compared to Q4 2023, sales increased 4.75% sequentially and operating profit increased 134%.

Just after Samsung released its profit forecast, it wasn’t enough to cheer up investors, with Samsung’s shares falling 1.3% in early trading on Friday, matching South Korea’s 1.1% decline.

Park Sung-soon, an analyst at Korea Investor Relations Service, said:

NAND flash memory chip stock valuations may have improved as revenue was largely in line with expectations but operating profit beat expectations. Demand for NAND has improved, which may also boost margins.

Initial response to the new Galaxy S24 smartphone has also been positive thanks to the artificial intelligence on the device, so there could be an impact if sales of the high-margin premium smartphone exceed expectations.

Samsung will announce detailed earnings on April 30.

Microsoft announced that it will cooperate with Inworld AI to develop Xbox tools to enable developers to create AI-based characters, stories and tasks.

According to reports, this cooperation will mainly include an “AI Design Copilot” system, which Xbox developers can use to create detailed scripts, dialogue trees, task lines, etc.

“At Xbox, we believe that with better tools, creators can make more extraordinary games,” explained Zhang Haiyan, general manager of Xbox Game AI.

She said the collaboration will bring together Inworld’s expertise in using generative AI models for character development, Microsoft’s cloud-based AI solutions, including Azure OpenAI services, Microsoft Research’s technical insights into future games, and the Xbox team’s work on The advantages of creator tools are designed to serve all developers.

It is seen from official information that this multi-platform artificial intelligence toolset will include “AI Design Copilot” for scripts and dialogues, as well as an AI character that can be integrated into games and used to dynamically generate stories, tasks and dialogues.

Microsoft also mentioned that Inworld has been working on AI NPCs that can react to player actions on their own, much like ChatGPT or Bing Chat respond to user queries.

They believe these AI NPCs will have unique responses, such as vocal tones, and bring storylines to the game with a variety of possible dialogues or faces.

“Artificial intelligence has long been an integral part of game development, with applications ranging from AI enemies to spawning processes and more,” said Ilya Gelfenbeyn, CEO of Inworld AI. “Large-scale language models and generative AI The emergence of the game opens up new opportunities for storytelling and character interaction in games.”

Of course, the use of generative AI in creative fields like game design or voice acting is controversial, such as when the Screen Actors Guild of America (SAG-AFTRA) recently voted to authorize a strike by game performers.

“Between leveraging AI and low wages, people working in video games face many of the same issues as those working in the film and television industries,” said Ray Rodriguez, chief contracts officer at SAG-AFTRA.

With the advancement of artificial intelligence technology, the demand for the naturalness and expressiveness of speech synthesis (TTS) is increasing. Last month, Microsoft released three new lifelike AI voices designed specifically for conversational situations. Recently, Microsoft has released 7 new realistic artificial intelligence voices for the Eastern United States/Southeast Asia/Western Europe and other regions, covering French (Canada), French (France), German (Germany), Italian (Italy) , Korean (South Korea), Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Spain) and other languages.

These new voices are ideal for applications that require vivid voice interactions, including chatbots, voice assistants, games, online learning, tourist attractions, and more.

In addition to these 7 new voices, Microsoft has also updated 3 existing voices to add more expressiveness.

How does Microsoft create these lifelike AI voices? Microsoft said, “We first designed a personality for each voice, just like a real person, friendly and optimistic, always willing to help others and share interesting or practical knowledge. The speaking style of this voice is similar to that of an acquaintance. For conversations over tea, keep the tone natural and not exaggerated.”

Currently, Microsoft provides more than 400 neural network voices, covering more than 140 languages and regions.

LinkedIn has launched a new artificial intelligence chatbot designed to become a job search coach for users and help users find their next job. The chatbot, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 technology and rolling out to premium subscribers starting Wednesday, will help users evaluate whether a job application is worth their time.

To open the chatbot, simply go to a job posting page and select a question prompt, such as “Am I right for this job?” or “How should I prepare for this job?” Chatbot Your profile and experience will be analyzed and an answer similar to “Your profile shows that you have extensive experience in marketing and event planning, which is relevant to this position.”

The robot’s experience was smoother and LinkedIn engineers had to reduce query-related delays. Erran Berger, LinkedIn’s vice president of product engineering, said in an interview with CNBC: “We had to build a lot of things on our own end to solve this problem and make this a fast experience. When you have these conversations When it comes to the experience, sometimes it’s almost like search – you expect it to be instantaneous, so we had to develop some real platform capabilities to enable that.”

Another issue is the safety of AI. LinkedIn says it has invested a lot of resources into ensuring its chatbots meet its responsible artificial intelligence standards.

In terms of functionality, LinkedIn has added the unique ability to have the chatbot show users some LinkedIn users who work at the company where the user is browsing jobs. It selects users with whom the user has a second- or third-degree relationship so that the user can send them a message about the job opportunity and optionally lets the AI write the message content.

A document showed that the Group of Seven (G7) countries will agree on a code of conduct for companies developing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems on Monday. Governments are currently working to reduce the risk of misuse of AI technology.

The document points out that taking into account the privacy and security risks that artificial intelligence may bring, the voluntary code of conduct will become an important milestone for major countries to manage artificial intelligence.

The process was launched in May this year at a ministerial forum called the Hiroshima Process on Artificial Intelligence, by leaders of the G7 and the European Union, consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The document mentioned that the code of conduct has 11 points, “aims to promote safe, reliable and trustworthy artificial intelligence on a global scale, and to provide support for the development of the most advanced artificial intelligence systems (including the most advanced basic models and generative artificial intelligence). Systematic) organizations provide voluntary guidance.”

In addition, the guidelines “will help harness the benefits of these technologies and address the risks and challenges they pose”. It urges businesses to take appropriate steps to identify, assess and mitigate risks throughout the AI lifecycle and to address abuse incidents and patterns once AI products are launched on the market.

Companies should publicly publish reports on the capabilities, limitations, uses and abuses of AI systems and invest in strong security controls.

The European Union is leading the way in regulating the emerging technology with its strict AI bill, while Japan, the United States and Southeast Asian countries have taken a less intrusive approach than the EU to promoting economic growth.

Earlier this month, Vera Jourova, the European Commission’s digital chief, told the Internet Governance Forum in Kyoto, Japan, that codes of conduct are a solid foundation for ensuring security. It will serve as a bridge until regulation is in place.

The gallery site Shutterstock announced the addition of a new set of AI-based features “creative editing” to improve and perfect the company’s more than 700 million high-quality image library of images.

The feature, which is still in beta, utilizes the company’s preferred access to OpenAI’s latest technology and allows users to use AI to generate new content or simply edit or transform any image in the Shutterstock library, according to the report.

The “Creative Editing” suite of features, which will be demoed live at the November 9 showcase, features six categories, as well as ancillary features such as AI design assistants and a range of filters that are said to be the “most advanced” in the industry. The six categories of features are as follows:

Magic Brush: Simply brush on the area you want to modify and simply describe what you want to add, replace or erase.

Variants: Alternative options for generating any stock or AI-generated image.

Enlargement: Expand the view of any image as easily as zooming through a camera lens to see more of the scene behind the center of the image.

Smart Resize: Automatically change the shape of an image to fit the desired size.

Background Remover: Remove or replace the background of any scene when the subject of the image is perfect but the background is not.

AI Image Generator: Launched in beta earlier this year and soon to be updated to the latest version of Dall-E, this tool allows anyone to create high-quality, ethically-sourced visuals (ready to be licensed and ready for commercial use) in seconds, simply by describing what they are looking for.

In addition, after the image has been edited by the said tool, the user will be licensed and the original author of the image will be compensated accordingly.

As previously reported in July this year, Shutterstock announced that it would continue its partnership with OpenAI for another six years, allowing OpenAI to use images, videos, and music within the Shutterstock platform to train AI models during this period.

Shutterstock first partnered with OpenAI in 2021, when it allowed OpenAI to use its images to train the text-generating image model DALL-E.

The Shutterstock platform has always been encouraging of AI, fully embracing it, but this also means that Shutterstock will face the challenge of copyright lawsuits over AI-generated content, for which Shutterstock has previously said it will be responsible for copyright lawsuits over users’ use of AI images on the platform.

Nadella recently went to Axel Springer headquarters to receive the 2023 Axel Springer Award. During the award event, he was interviewed by Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springers.

In the interview, Nadella said: “I think artificial intelligence (AI) needs a certain degree of global governance, and the governance process will inevitably be accompanied by some competition. If we want to form a successful artificial intelligence regulatory mechanism , global cooperation like that of the International Atomic Energy Agency is needed.”

Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Google boss Sundar Pichai attended the closed-door meeting, as did former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates and current Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

It was previously reported that Nadella said in an interview with BI:

To me, our biggest opportunity is artificial intelligence (AI). Just as cloud computing has transformed all software categories, we believe artificial intelligence is such a transformative shift. Whether it's search or our Office software suite, there's going to be a sea change.

The way we create documents and spreadsheets or consume information is fundamentally changing. Therefore, the Copilot concept we are introducing will be truly revolutionary in terms of driving productivity improvements and communication. The same goes for software development. The fact that human jobs, whether frontline or knowledge work, can be augmented by AI Copilot will be the biggest transformation.

Samsung plans to fully invest in artificial intelligence technology on its next-generation flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 series, according to Sammobile, whose sources report. Samsung wants the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 + and Galaxy S24 Ultra to be the smartest AI phones ever, even surpassing the features Google offers on its Pixel series.

It’s an ambitious goal, but unfortunately there isn’t much information on how Samsung is going to achieve it yet. All that is known is that the Galaxy S24 series will have some features from ChatGPT and Google Bard, such as creating content and stories based on some keywords provided by the user.

There are also some features that Samsung has designed itself, such as the text-to-image generative AI that was mentioned during the launch of the Exynos 2400 chip, and many of the features can be used both online and offline. There will also be improvements to the speech-to-text feature, and it’s uncertain what those improvements will be, but you can expect Bixby to have more human and intelligent conversations with users.

Samsung hasn’t given up on Bixby yet, and the company will likely focus more on Bixby in the coming years as phone makers start to turn to AI to make smartphones fun again. Only Google is currently serious about this, and Samsung wants to get in on the action. The Galaxy S24 series should also be faster at performing AI tasks compared to the Pixel smartphones, thanks to the more powerful Exynos and Snapdragon chips.

The Samsung Galaxy S24, S24 + and S24 Ultra are expected to be released in January, although the exact release date is not yet known.

For Mustafa Suleyman, the first wave of AI was about classification. Deep learning has shown that humans can train computers to classify various types of input data: images, video, audio and language.

According to Mustafa Suleyman, humans are in the second wave of “generative AI,” which is “inputting data and generating new data.

The third wave of the future will be interactive AI, where “dialogue is the interactive interface of the future,” where users don’t just click buttons and type text but have direct conversations with AI:
