Apple recently launched a new advertising campaign to promote its Apple Pay service, the campaign uses the “Apple-style payment” (Pay the Apple Way) slogan, in billboards, social networks and other platforms show.

The “Pay the Apple Way” campaign is designed to demonstrate the convenience of making purchases with an iPhone or Apple Watch without having to take a card out of your wallet, with Apple emphasizing the simplicity, speed and security of Apple Pay. Apple has installed billboards in the U.S. and the U.K., which are the main areas where it is promoting Apple Pay. Apple plans to showcase a dynamic and immersive experience on street billboards and mall booths, which users can see in cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, Dallas and Atlanta.

The campaign is accompanied by four videos demonstrating the ease of using Apple Pay, which Apple plans to air on social networks such as TikTok, Twitter, Instagram and more. For TikTok, Apple has also partnered with TikTok creators, each answering the question “What can I do with Apple Pay?” question to spark discussion about the uses of contactless payments.

The campaign has already launched, with ads appearing in cities and on social media networks. Apple Pay is one of the most widely used contactless payment methods, and Apple says it is accepted by more than 85% of retailers in the United States.

Apple has been in contact with a number of Indian authorities and officials in recent weeks and plans to talk to NPCI soon to launch its payment service Apple Pay in the South Asian market, according to two people familiar with the matter. A crowded space dominated by Google’s PhonePe, Google’s GPay and Paytm.

The company, which Chief Executive Tim Cook met with bankers during a recent visit to India, is developing a localized version of Apple Pay that runs on top of UPI, a popular South Asian market. payment mode. NPCI is a special unit of the Reserve Bank of India, the central bank of India, which oversees the UPI platform.

Apple wants iPhone users in India to be able to scan a QR code and initiate a UPI transaction without having to use any PSP app, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss non-public matters.

Apple did not respond to a May 24 request for comment.

The iPhone maker, which first opened a retail store in India in April, has had several talks with authorities over the years about launching Apple Pay. Company executives told the media more than six years ago that Apple planned to bring Apple Pay to India — but nothing happened.

In recent conversations with some Indian authorities, Apple suggested that Apple Pay could use Face ID on iPhones for UPI authentication, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The people cautioned that the company has yet to make a final decision on its partners and release date, suggesting a release date could be several quarters away.

India is a small market for Apple, and the possible launch of Apple Pay is unlikely to disrupt incumbents in the ecosystem, which processes more than 8 billion transactions per month on the UPI platform. More than 90% of all smartphones used in India run on Android.

Apple released its latest Apple Watch operating system watchOS 10 at its Worldwide Developers Conference 2023, bringing many new features and interface improvements to users. But in addition to what Apple mentioned, there are some other new features hidden throughout the system. One interesting change is that users can now add their bank cards to Apple Pay directly on their Apple Watch without the need for an iPhone.

Previously, users had to add a new card to Apple Pay through the Watch app on their iPhone, but in watchOS 10, the Wallet app on Apple Watch adds an “Add Card” button. Users can simply tap this button to complete the entire setup process for Apple Pay on the Apple Watch. Users can enter their credit card number, expiration date and security code directly on the watch. If the user’s bank provides text or phone verification instead of using the bank’s app, the iPhone is not required to complete the setup.

This is a small but important update, Apple has been gradually reducing the Apple Watch’s reliance on the iPhone over the past few years. For example, users can access watchOS settings directly on the watch, and models with cellular capabilities can also make phone calls and listen to songs online without a phone nearby. Of course, the Apple Watch still needs to be paired with an iPhone to work, but Apple seems to want users to be able to do more without taking out their phones.

In addition to a refreshed interface, watchOS 10 brings new features, including widgets that can be accessed from any dial, new options for monitoring cycling, mental health tracking, group FaceTime audio, NameDrop and more. Apple says watchOS 10 will be pushed out to all users this fall, with a public beta expected to launch in July.

Kroger, the largest supermarket chain in the United States, began supporting Apple Pay payments last month, a decision that has put new pressure on another large chain, Super Walmart. But Walmart still, like Kroger before it, chose to reject Apple Pay and continue to promote its own payment platform.

You may be a little unfamiliar with Wal-Mart payment, but it is actually the same as the most commonly used scan code payment in China. Apple Pay relies primarily on contactless NFC functionality, requiring users to tap their iPhone or Apple Watch at a payment terminal, while Walmart Pay relies on QR codes.

It may be difficult to decide which is more secure and convenient to discuss NFC air payment and scan code payment, but American users do prefer Apple Pay to Walmart Pay. Of course, Walmart is also trying to justify Walmart Pay over Apple Pay.

The industry believes that Kroger’s final choice to support Apple Pay may greatly influence Walmart’s decision. Most shoppers on Twitter are complaining about this, especially users who are keen to use Apple Pay.

Of course, Walmart is not the only boycotting Apple Pay in the United States. Well-known chain stores such as Home Depot and HEB also do not support it, but in terms of scale, Wal-Mart is still the largest Apple Pay boycott in the United States so far.

Apple Inc. today officially launched its Apple Pay payment service in South Korea, allowing iPhone and Apple Watch users in the country to use Apple’s payment system to make contactless payments.

Apple has been pushing for the Apple Pay service to land in South Korea since 2017, but it was not until February of this year that Apple received approval from financial regulators due to heavy scrutiny from regulators.

A report in The Korea Times that NFC terminals in Korean retail stores have grown significantly over the past six years, but adoption remains low, which is a “major challenge” for Apple’s rollout of Apple Pay services in Korea.

Another notable point is that Apple Pay in Korea is currently limited to Hyundai Card users only, with no other banks joining Apple Pay.
