Apple today released the third public beta of iOS/iPadOS 16.6, macOS Ventura 13.5, and watchOS 9.6, just one day after the previously released developer beta.

Apple’s development focus is now on the upcoming iOS / iPadOS 17 and macOS 14 systems, so this public beta release does not introduce many new features, but rather focuses on bug fixes, performance improvements, and improved background stability.

iOS / iPadOS 16.6 is a small update. Users who have already signed up for Apple’s free Beta program can do so by opening the Settings app, going to General, selecting “Software Update, click on “Beta Updates” and then select the iOS 16 Public Beta option to enable the beta.

Apple is slowing down iOS/iPadOS 16.6 and macOS Ventura 13.5 updates. iOS 16.6 should be the last version of the iOS 16 branch before Apple officially releases iOS 17 in September.

Apple’s development focus is now on the upcoming iOS / iPadOS 17 and macOS 14 systems, so this public beta release does not introduce many new features, but rather focuses on bug fixes, performance improvements, and background stability improvements.

Users who have signed up for Apple’s free Beta program can do so by opening the Settings app, going to General and selecting Software Update. You can enable the beta by opening the “Settings” app, going to “General”, selecting “Software Update”, clicking “Beta Update”, and then selecting the iOS 16 public beta option.

The official changelog and found only two known issues with Home and Xcode:

Home

When users open the new Home app and select a supported accessory from the list of nearby accessories, pairing the first Matter accessory will fail.

Temporary solution: Pair the first Matter device by scanning the QR code, and subsequent Matter accessories can be paired using the nearby accessories list.

Xcode:

Starting with iOS 16.6, after running attributed text for UILabel, a negative NSBaselineOffsetAttributeName value will return to its pre-16.3 behavior of lowering the text position within the label boundary.
