IDC research director Nabila Popal recently said in an interview with CNN: “This year, we expect the Android system to grow at twice the rate of iOS.”

Nabila Popal added that Apple’s smartphone sales fell nearly 10% in Q1 this year, which is a “sharp decline” for Apple. “The experience of the past four years shows that Apple may be the most resilient brand, able to overcome supply chain issues and macro challenges better than other brands.”

As for Samsung’s return to the top spot as the world’s No. 1 smartphone maker during the quarter, Popal said it was “hugely significant.” She believes that Samsung will be well-positioned for further growth this year as the overall smartphone market recovers this year and it makes efforts in the field of artificial intelligence.

According to the report, the IDC report predicts that while Apple and Samsung will maintain market share, the recovery of Huawei and other companies such as Xiaomi and OPPO/OnePlus will continue in the Chinese market.

According to a report, IDC data showed that global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2024 (1Q24) increased by 7.8% year-on-year to 289.4 million units. While the smartphone industry is not completely out of the woods yet and the market still faces macroeconomic challenges, the figure marks the third consecutive quarter of smartphone shipment growth and is a strong indicator that the recovery is well underway.

Apple today to iPhone, iPad users pushed the iOS / iPadOS 17 first public beta version, inviting users around the world to test the new version.

Apple has already released 3 Beta versions for developers (Apple re-released the Beta 3 update yesterday), and the public beta version launched this time is the same as the Beta 3 content.

Registered developers can opt into the beta by opening the Settings app, going to the Software Update section, clicking on the Beta Update option, and then opening the iOS Developer Beta to opt into the beta. Please note that an Apple ID associated with a developer account is required to download and install the beta.

The major new features of iOS / iPadOS 17 Beta 3 are as follows:
Deleted Photos:

Apple has restructured the Recently Deleted interface by integrating the separate “Delete” and “Restore” buttons under the “…” button, which needs to be clicked to be invoked.

When you click the “…” button without selecting an image, the “Delete” button appears. button when the picture is not selected, the options of “Delete All” and “Restore All” will appear; clicking the “…” button when the photo is selected, the options of “Delete All” and “Restore All” will appear. button with photos selected, there is an option to “Save as video” in addition to the delete and restore options.
Mental Wellbeing:

Apple has optimized the design of Mental Wellbeing in the Health app, streamlining the look and introducing a new color scheme that changes the colors for different moods and matches different button colors and backgrounds to the mood.

Very Unpleasant is light purple, Extremely Unpleasant is red, Slightly Unpleasant is blue, Currently Peaceful is blue-green, Slightly Happy is bright green, More Pleasant is yellow, and Very Pleasant is orange.

There’s also an option to turn on reminders to keep track of moods on a schedule.
Apple Music Song Credits

In the Apple Music app, there’s now an option to view a list of song producers by tapping the three-dot icon next to a song that’s playing, searching, or in a playlist.

The credits show all the performing artists, songwriting artists, and people involved in production and engineering.

This section also includes the option to view the full lyrics, which has been removed from the standard drop-down menu, and it provides information about available audio quality such as lossless or Dolby Atmos.
Home app

The Home app introduces a new launch screen that lets users know what’s new in Home. The new version supports richer colours with pre-selected options at the bottom of the interface for quick color changes. Color options also show up in Control Center when accessing specific lights.

The Home app in the third beta now also supports Activity History, which can be turned off or enabled for the previous month. Activity History shows active events for smart locks, garage doors, and home security systems.

Apple today released the first beta version SDK (6.85GB) of visionOS, allowing third-party developers to develop applications for the Vision Pro headset.

For developers who want to port existing iPhone or iPad apps to the Vision Pro headset, firstly the headset doesn’t support certain types of apps, and secondly, the whole porting is not easy.

Apple officially made it clear that iMessage stickers, custom input methods, map navigation applications, and photography applications cannot be ported to visionOS.

Here is a list of features and tools that are not available for the visionOS app:

Core Motion, barometer, magnetometer, haptic and other device frameworks

Third-party apps show that the camera on the Vision Pro headset cannot be used to take pictures and record videos.

visionOS will hide the AirPlay button in the interface

App Clips, watchOS app extensions, widgets for home screen or lock screen

Handoff will not attempt to pass activity from visionOS to other devices

Users can't add HomeKit devices from Apple Vision Pro

Multi-touch is limited to two touch inputs, not 10

The update also adds iPad compatibility, so the app can make better use of the large iPad screen. Drag-and-drop support has also been added, so you can now drag and drop individual messages into other apps.

The ChatGPT app is still only available for iOS, and it’s unknown when the Android version will go live.

At WWDC23, Apple announced that you now only need to say “Siri” to wake up Siri, instead of saying “Hey”, but Siri’s other features don’t seem to have been enhanced.

According to Apple’s official security update log, Apple today released iOS / iPadOS 16.5 and iOS / iPadOS 15.7.6, which fixes many bugs that exist in Siri, Accessibility, Cellular Network, Photos, and more.

Apple iOS

Three of these have been proven to be exploited by hackers, and Apple has previously fixed two vulnerabilities with the release of iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1 Quick Security Response updates.

The remaining vulnerability exists in WebKit and allows attackers to break through the Web content sandbox, which Apple fixed by modifying boundary checks.

A vulnerability in Apple’s official logs has a large impact on users. Hackers who have physical access to your device can view your contact information under the lock screen interface through the Siri vulnerability.

iPhone 8 and successor models, all iPad Pro models, iPad Air (3rd generation) and successor models, iPad 5 and successor models, and iPad mini and successor models are affected.

Apple pushed out the iOS / iPadOS 16.5 Developer Preview Beta 3 update (internal version number: 20F5050f) to iPhone and iPad users, 14 days after the last release.

Apple iOS update

The iOS 16.5 Beta 3 update reads as follows:

Apple’s official changelog, as well as reports from 9to5Mac, MacRumors and other media outlets, and did not find any new features introduced in the iOS / iPadOS 16.5 Beta 3 update.

Apple’s development team has now focused on iOS 17 and the iOS 16 development branch is coming to an end, so no new major features or additions will be introduced.

The iOS/iPadOS 16.5 Beta 3 changelog is the same as Beta 2, so we won’t go over it here.
The updates to iOS 16.5 Beta 2 are as follows:
Complete disabling of Beta description files:

Apple discontinued the Beta profile on iPhone and iPad in the iOS / iPadOS 16.4 update. In iOS / iPadOS 16.5 Beta 2 and watchOS 9.5 Beta 2, this Beta tweak now applies to Apple Watch as well.

This means that watchOS Beta updates are no longer enabled via the watchOS Beta description file, but via the Watch app on the iPhone.

In addition, macOS has also switched to a new beta testing method: [Apple iOS / iPadOS 16.5 Developer Preview Beta 3

Apple-macOS-Ventura-13.4-1

Trellix Advanced Research Center today released a blog post disclosing a privilege enforcement vulnerability in iOS and macOS systems that could be used by attackers to obtain messages, location data, photos, call logs and more for iPhone and Mac users.

Trellix has discovered the first vulnerability in the coreduetd process, which could be exploited by an attacker to access a person’s calendar, address book, and photos.

In addition, an attacker could also exploit vulnerabilities in OSLogService and NSPredicate in Springboard to gain access to cameras, microphones, call logs, and more.

Trellix reported the vulnerability to Apple after it was discovered. Apple has fixed both CVE-2023-23530 and CVE-2023-23531 in iOS 16.3 and macOS 13.2 Ventura.

Trellix acknowledged Apple’s speed of fix in a blog post, and subsequent testing found that Apple has indeed fixed these vulnerabilities through improved memory handling mechanisms.
