Spotify sells tickets to live shows directly to fans from its platform

Spotify has launched a new website that sells tickets to live shows directly to fans from its platform, rather than redirecting users to partners such as Ticketmaster and Eventbrite. The company’s new site lists upcoming concerts and lets users buy tickets to those shows via debit or credit card; however, users need to have a Spotify account to purchase tickets.

The company hasn’t officially announced the launch of its ticketing platform, but Chris Messina first noted earlier today about the site being available for the public to book tickets. The site lists bookable shows on its homepage, and in the “My Events” section, users can see their past and upcoming ticket bookings. Currently, Spotify Tickets lists artists such as Limbeck, Crow, Annie DiRusso, Four Years Strong and TOKiMONSTA performing in the U.S. in the coming months.

The company revamped its in-app live event discovery page in June to provide better gig discovery for events around users’ local areas. So far, Spotify has used its ticketing partners such as Ticketmaster, AXS, DICE, Eventbrite and See Tickets to list these events. To book tickets, it used to link to these partners from the events page. This may change with the launch of its ticketing platform.

While the events listed on the Spotify tickets site are not currently available on the live events page, the company’s support page says some of the tickets listed there can be purchased directly from Spotify. Tickets sold directly through Spotify are also not currently listed on the artist page. the legal section of Spotify’s ticketing site says the company only acts as a ticketing agent and charges a booking fee. It also mentions that it can sell tickets on behalf of “third parties, including venues, event promoters, fan clubs and artists, as their disclosed ticketing agents.
