Sony has announced the launch of a new headphone in India that will replace the WH-CH710N mid-range active noise cancelling headphones. The Sony WH-CH720N headphones are Sony’s third generation of over-ear headphones, following the flagship 1000X series and mid-range 900 series headphones, catering to users who prefer a more balanced sound output rather than extra bass. Priced at INR 9,999 (currently about RMB 834).

The key feature is the lightweight design of the Sony WH-CH720N, which Sony says is its lightest-ever over-ear headphone design with active noise cancellation. The headphones are rated at 192 grams, compared to 223 grams for the predecessor CH710N.

Features remain the same. The Sony WH-CH720N features dual noise sensors and a V1 noise chip for 20 levels of customizable active noise cancellation that can be adjusted via Sony’s Headphones Connect mobile app. Support enables active ambient sound mode and automatically adjusts noise cancellation levels based on the user’s surroundings.

Users will also receive Sony’s signature DSEE audio upgrade engine, while the enclosed 30mm dynamic drivers remain the same as their predecessors. The new CH720N headset supports Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, and the headset’s supported codecs and audio formats remain the same. It also features a beamforming microphone for clearer audio calls.

While audio support remains the same, the Sony WH-CH720N appears to offer a higher impedance of 320 ohms.
