Sony announced: PS VR2 virtual reality device in early 2023, only support PS5

According to reports, the Japanese company Sony has announced in several social media, the virtual reality headset “PlayStation VR2” will be released early next year.

Earlier this year, Sony officially released details of the design of the virtual reality device, but no sales price has been announced yet. The PS VR2 will reportedly have a 4K resolution HD display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz or 120 Hz and a 110-degree viewing angle. The device supports “point-of-view rendering” technology, which means that some areas of the screen are sharper than others, thus reducing the burden on the gaming device (VR2 will use Sony’s PS5 console as the computing device). Sony also introduced the virtual reality device and the console connection requires only a USB-C cable.

Sony has previously announced that by the time VR2 is officially released, the company will have more than 20 major virtual reality games ready, including virtual reality versions of two popular games, No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil 8: The Village, as well as newly developed virtual reality games.

Sony’s first-generation virtual reality device, the PS VR, sold in the past, relied on a camera connected to the console to identify the user’s movements and actions. It is said that VR2 will not adopt this model, it uses a model similar to the Quest 2 device, using the headset’s own camera to track movements. This means that the VR2 will also enable players to view their surroundings while the user is moving around wearing the headset.

Sony also announced that players can live stream through the PS5 console while enjoying virtual reality games, though users must have the PS HD HD camera installed.

Sony also showed off the controller developed for VR2, with a trigger mechanism and vibration feedback, similar to the DualSense controller Sony configured for the PS5 console. This controller is also able to recognize finger touch, which means that players no longer have to press hard, the controller is also able to recognize the position of the thumb, middle finger, index finger.

On the computing device, VR2 future can only work with Sony’s own PS5 console. Sony previously released the PS5 console, but many fans have yet to buy it, VR2 can only work with PS5 is obviously not good news.

But the PS5 sales problem seems to be showing signs of being solved, Sony has adopted a queue ordering model, the console will now not immediately snapped up as soon as it comes out.

But for gamers, at the point in time when the VR2 headset is officially released, the most important thing they can do is make sure they have the PS5 console in hand.

There is also the possibility that after the official release of VR2, the device will be snapped up and Sony will have to do a good job of stocking up. And for players who want to enjoy virtual reality games, they will face the problem of the adequacy of supply of two popular Sony goods, namely the PS5 and VR2.

At launch, the VR2 will face a host of competitors in virtual reality gaming. Later this year, Facebook parent company Meta will release its high-end Cambria headset. But like the VR2, Meta has yet to announce a price for the device. It’s worth noting that Meta recently announced a price increase for its Quest 2 headset, which has been on the market for two and a half years, which doesn’t bode well for Cambria pricing.

Apple is also developing an augmented reality or mixed reality device, and the entire tech industry is watching to see when Apple will release it. The device is said to be priced at several thousand dollars. Ming-Chi Kuo, a leading analyst who has long followed Apple, predicted that Apple’s headset could be released in January of next year.
