SIA: Global semiconductor sales in January, down 18.5% year-over-year

According to data recently released by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), the global semiconductor industry posted sales of $41.3 billion in January 2023, a figure down 5.2% from $43.6 billion in December 2022 and down 18.5% from $50.7 billion in January 2022.

John Neuffer, President and CEO of SIA, said, “Although sales in the whole year of 2022 reached a record high, the global semiconductor market began to decline significantly in the second half of the year. This situation is still in the first month of 2023. Continued. The semiconductor market is currently experiencing a short-term cyclical downturn, but because chips play an increasingly important role in various key technologies, the semiconductor market still has great potential in the long run.”

From the perspective of various regions, Europe achieved a weak month-on-month growth in January (0.6%), while Japan (-2.1%), Asia-Pacific/all other regions (-2.7%), the Americas (-7.9%) %) and China (-8.0%) both experienced month-on-month declines. On a year-over-year basis, Europe (0.9%) and Japan (0.7%) also saw increases, while the Americas (-12.4%), Asia Pacific/All Other (-19.5%) and China (-31.6%) all recorded decreases.
