Apple iPhone 15 does not support ProMotion and All Weather Display

According to an industry source quoted by “yeux1122”, a news aggregator on the Naver blog in South Korea, the standard version of Apple’s iPhone 15 will not come with an LTPO display, meaning it will not support ProMotion adaptive refresh rate and all-day display. This means that it will not support ProMotion’s adaptive refresh rate and all-day display.

Last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max used an updated low-power display backlight technology that supports ProMotion refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz. The display refresh rate adjusts based on what is being displayed on the screen, with static content using a lower refresh rate and dynamic content such as games and videos using a higher refresh rate to provide a smoother experience.

The insider said that, like last year, only the Pro models in the iPhone 15 lineup will come with the LTPO panel needed to support ProMotion, suggesting that the feature will remain exclusive to Apple’s high-end models.

If this is accurate, it also means that the all-day display will remain exclusive to the Pro models as well, as only the new LTPO panel will support the 1Hz refresh rate that is the basis for the all-day display.

The display analyst Ross Young also gave a similar revelation in September 2022, saying at the time that he expected all iPhone 15 series to support Lingering Island, but that production scale constraints meant that not all iPhone 15s would use LPTO panels.
