Samsung already working on new 200MP high-resolution camera sensor, may arrive on Galaxy S23

Samsung launched the world’s first 200-megapixel camera sensor a few months back, designed for mobile devices. The sensor is called ISOCELL HP1 and it’s yet to be used on a smartphone. But it seems like, the company is already working on its successor.

The New 200MP Camera Sensor (ISOCELL HP3)

A recent report by GlalaxyClub has revealed that the South Korean giant is working on another 200MP camera sensor. This is the successor of ISOCELL HP1 and is named ISOCELL HP3.

The previous ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor was introduced in the summer of 2021. It was a combination of a large number of pixels on a larger 1/22” sensor. This sensor was never implemented on a Samsung device but only appeared on a Motorola prototype, very recently.

Previous Generation ISOCELL Camera Sensor by Samsung

Still, it looks like Samsung is not standing still with the development in this department. None of the specifications were revealed for this upcoming sensor like the pixel size, optical format, or video recording support. But it is expected to come with several improvements over the previous generation.

In any case, we still aren’t sure which smartphones will be getting this ISOCELL HP3 update. The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 aren’t expected to come with this sensor. A rumor suggests that the Galaxy S23 could be the first Samsung flagship that will make use of this new 200MP camera sensor. But nothing’s concrete at this moment.
