The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will use Qualcomm’s third-generation ultrasonic fingerprint reader. It’s just not clear at this stage whether it will be equipped with Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Max sensor, announced earlier this year, or a custom fingerprint sensor from Samsung to Qualcomm.
The Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max has a surface area of 20mm x 30mm, almost 10 times larger than the 3D Sonic Gen 2 (8mm x 8mm) scanner used in the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Currently, the iQOO 9 Pro and Vivo X80 Pro from domestic handset manufacturers are already equipped with Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max. It is five times more accurate than 3D Sonic Gen 2 and can accommodate two fingers at the same time for added security. It even supports one-touch fingerprint enrollment, which greatly reduces the process of enrolling fingerprints.
