Samsung Galaxy S23 series wireless charging speed shrunk, the Ultra model is 33% slower

Samsung Galaxy S23 series phones’ wireless charging speed than last year’s S22 series is even slower, which makes many users feel disappointed.

According to Phonearena’s tests, all three phones in the S23 series are much slower than the S22 series regarding wireless charging speed. The worst performer is the flagship S23 Ultra, which has a 5,000 mAh battery and 15W wireless charging support. Still, the S23 Ultra’s wireless charging speed is 33% slower than the S22 Ultra when tested with the official charger. The S22 Ultra takes 1 hour and 58 minutes to fully charge with the wireless charger, while the S23 Ultra takes 2 hours and 37 minutes, taking 39 minutes longer, and the entire charging process is slower than the official 15W claim.

The other two phones in the S23 series also have increased battery capacity, but the wireless charging time has only increased by 15 minutes, not dropped as much as the S23 Ultra. Some have argued that fast charging affects battery life, but there is plenty of real-world evidence on the market that this fear is unfounded.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro models have also been tested, and the data shows that the 14 Pro Max wirelessly charges at about the same speed as the S23 Ultra.

Presumably, the S23 Ultra may have some heat dissipation issues that are causing the wireless charging speed to decrease. But even 15W wireless charging can not be considered “fast charging”, the fastest wireless charging solution on the market can reach 50W, and currently Samsung, Apple and Google are far behind the advanced charging technology provided by Chinese manufacturers.

The 15W wireless charging rate of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series only applies to the company’s own charger, using a third-party charger speed limit of 10W, even if the charger supports 15W.
