Samsung Galaxy S23 series doesn’t support satellite communication

Huawei Mate 50 and Apple iPhone 14 series have supported satellite communication, however, just released Samsung Galaxy S23 series unexpectedly did not provide this feature.

In response, TM Roh, president and head of Samsung’s mobile experience business, admitted that it is interested in satellite communication on smartphones and will also bring the feature. But he also thinks it’s too early to tell, as satellite capabilities on today’s phones are still quite limited.

TM Roh said, “When the right time comes and the infrastructure and technology are ready, then certainly for Samsung Galaxy, for our mobile division, we will actively consider adopting this feature as well.”

Qualcomm debuted the Snapdragon satellite at CES last month. But unlike Apple, Qualcomm said it plans to expand the feature beyond emergency scenarios, meaning people will be able to send satellite messages for social purposes.

According to Roh, satellite communication is just one way to make phones better at helping people communicate in emergencies. Samsung has made other efforts to give people a sense of security, such as improving the sensors inside its phones and expanding 5G coverage, he said, adding, “I don’t think this is the only solution to ensure users’ peace of mind.”
