Samsung camera module brand upgrade, the next generation may be called XISO-CELL

Since its debut in the Galaxy S5, Samsung’s own camera modules have been using the “ISOCELL” brand. In the following years of development, Samsung also launched ISOCELL Plus and ISOCELL 2.0 brand. According to Samsung’s latest trademark application, the next-generation Samsung module brand may be called “XISO-CELL”.

Citing foreign technology media Galaxy Club, Samsung recently filed a trademark application for “XISO-CELL” with the Korea Intellectual Property Information Service (KIPRIS), but the document only shows the brand and font and does not reveal any other information. So it’s unclear whether the Galaxy S23’s 200-megapixel main camera will use the new trademark instead.

The “ISOCELL” trademark is derived from “isolated cells,” which is Samsung’s way of reducing interference and noise between two adjacent pixels in a camera. And we’re not sure what adding an X in front of the current ISOCELL brand has to do with its performance or quality.
