Reports show multiple battery-related fires at Lucid’s Arizona facility

According to foreign media reports, according to a recent report released by Drive Tesla Canada, Lucid’s plant in Arizona has suffered two fires in just four months.

Lucid is currently steadily increasing the production rate of its plant in Casa Grande. According to fire department records, two fires at the plant, both related to electric vehicle batteries, the first of which occurred on March 14, 2022, at Lucid’s powertrain center, suffered a thermal runaway, but generally like electric vehicle battery fires, even if the open flames are extinguished, they continue to re-ignite as the rising heat continues to affect more cells. The incident resulted in one person being burned.

Then, in June, another fire broke out at the plant, and by the time firefighters arrived, the batteries were partially submerged in water outside the plant, and the accident resulted in injuries to four workers.

Lucid is currently ramping up production of its flagship luxury electric car, the Air, which has been delivered since last September, and the fire has certainly put a damper on that. lucid is targeting production of between 12,000 and 14,000 units this year.

However, EV production and fire accidents are not new, as other EV manufacturers have reported similar incidents, such as startup Canoo, which recorded two battery-related fires, and Rivian, which has dealt with at least three fires at its plant in Nomar, Illinois.
