According to the whistleblower @Tech Reve, the GPU frequency of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is as high as 900Mhz, instead of the 770MHz Adreno 750 (Adreno Gen 7.9.0) guessed by netizens before. In addition, its CPU also has a 3.4 GHz Cortex-X4 large core.

It is said that the new generation of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be manufactured based on TSMC’s N3E process.

According to Kuba Wojciechowski, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor model is “SM8650” and the internal code name is “Lanai” or “Pineapple”. The processor uses a 2+3+2+1 architecture:

  • 2 Arm “silver” cores codenamed “Hayes” (A5xx)
  • 3 Arm “gold” cores codenamed “Hunter” (A7xx)
  • 2 Arm “titanium” cores codenamed “Hunter” (A7xx)
  • 1 Arm “gold+” core codenamed “Hunter ELP” (Xn)

The chipset does not support 32-bit Android apps and games due to the lack of relevant CPU cores, which also means that all developers must update their apps to the 64-bit architecture.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supports Android 14 and Linux Kernel 6.1 and is mass-produced using TSMC’s improved 4nm process or Samsung’s 3nm process.

It is worth mentioning that it was previously reported that Qualcomm abandoned the ARM CPU design on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, and instead used its own customized Oryon core solution, which can increase multi-core performance by up to 40%.

According to sources, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has two “Nuvia Phoenix” performance cores and six “Nuvia Phoenix M” efficiency cores. Among them, Nuvia is the name of the company that Qualcomm acquired to develop custom CPUs.

Revegnus said in a tweet that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 1800 points in single-core performance and 6500 points in multi-core performance in the Geekbench 5 benchmark.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scored 2070 points in single-core performance and 9100 points in multi-core performance in the GeekBench 5 benchmark test. In the same test, the multi-core score of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 can exceed that of M2. Currently, the M2 has a multi-core score between 8800 and 9000 in GeekBench 5.
