The Quest Pro headset device that Meta announced, it’s equipped with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 chip. Thankfully, Qualcomm itself has now released some more details about it. The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 chip comes with a new image processing pipeline that enables latency of less than 10 milliseconds, unlocking full-color video passthrough for mixed reality (MR).

The chip also supports 8K 60fps 360-degree video, concurrent “sensing” technologies including head, hand and controller tracking, 3D reconstruction, automatic room mapping and high pixel density. Compared to its predecessor, the chip offers a 30% increase in thermal performance and a 50% increase in sustained power.

Interestingly, the Meta Quest Touch Pro grips are powered by the Snapdragon 662 platform, which allows them to track through multiple embedded positioning cameras and provide ultra-low latency for the headset. Qualcomm said several OEMs have committed to launching devices with XR2+ by the end of this year. To date, the Snapdragon XR chip powers more than 60 XR (extended reality) devices worldwide.
