Cristiano Amon, CEO and president of Qualcomm, reportedly said today that 2024 will be the year that Windows PCs make a splash with Snapdragon processors.

In today’s earnings call, Cristiano Amon said, “Windows PCs with Snapdragon processors will see an inflection point in 2024, based on the relevant designs we have accumulated today.”

Cristiano Amon’s prediction is based on the AI capabilities of Microsoft Windows, the increasing adoption of Snapdragon processors by PC manufacturers, and further design work to make Snapdragon increasingly suitable for Windows.

Cristiano Amon did not elaborate on which PC makers will offer PCs with Snapdragon processors. But last week, Lenovo announced the ThinkPad X13s, the world’s first laptop powered by a third-generation Snapdragon 8cx chip.

Earlier today, Qualcomm reported fourth-quarter earnings for fiscal 2022. Revenue came in slightly above Wall Street analysts’ estimates and adjusted earnings per share met expectations, but the outlook for both revenue and earnings per share for the first quarter of fiscal 2023 came in below expectations, causing its shares to fall nearly 7 percent after the bell.

In the face of the current economic downturn, Amon said on the conference call, “With a strong balance sheet and free cash flow, we are confident and capable of navigating the current downturn.” Amon also said that Qualcomm is responding to the economic slowdown by freezing hiring and further cutting operating expenses.
