Porsche will launch a three-motor version of the Taycan to face off with the Tesla Model S Plaid

We know that there is a rivalry between the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. Now Porsche is reportedly planning to take that rivalry to a new level, as the automaker intends to launch a three-motor version of the Taycan to compete head-to-head with the Tesla Model S Plaid.

Porsche’s Taycan electric car set a new record at the Nürburgring in 2019, while last year Tesla brought its new Model S Plaid to the track and beat Porsche’s record with an impressive lap time of 7:35.579.

Earlier this year, Porsche brought a Taycan back to the Nürburgring and beat Tesla by two seconds, once again claiming the record for the fastest lap of a production electric car, but this time the record was disputed because the Porsche Taycan was equipped with a new “Performance Package” available only in Germany, and only for the 2023 model year. And it’s only available for the 2023 Taycan Turbo S sports sedan.

Now according to a new report from Auto Express, Porsche is testing a new Taycan that, like the Tesla Model S Plaid, has a triple electric motor. The new three-motor version is supposed to replace the Taycan Turbo S as the fastest car in the lineup.

It’s unclear when the three-motor version of the Taycan will be available.
