Apple’s M2-chip version of the iPad Pro 2022, released in October, is one of the first Apple devices to support Wi-Fi 6E, which uses the 6GHz band for faster and more reliable Wi-Fi connections. In a new support document, Apple explains how the feature works.

To create a Wi-Fi 6E network, users need to use a Wi-Fi 6E router with its 2.4GHz or 5GHz band enabled, Apple said. For best Wi-Fi performance, Apple recommends using a single network name on the router’s 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands. Otherwise, iPad Pro will recognize the network as having “limited compatibility,” and Apple warns that “the overall experience of some activities over that network may not be as expected.

If users experience any issues with the Wi-Fi 6E network, Apple says they can turn off Wi-Fi 6E mode for that network and the iPad Pro will no longer use the network’s 6GHz band. To turn off Wi-Fi 6E mode, you can open the Settings app, tap Wi-Fi, tap the name of the network you are connected to, tap Wi-Fi 6E mode and turn it off. However, Apple says this setting only appears in Wi-Fi 6E networks that use a single network name for all bands.

IT Home has learned that the Apple iPad Pro 2022 country line supports 802.11ax wireless LAN connectivity, or Wi-Fi 6, and does not support the latest Wi-Fi 6E mode for now.

According to Apple, the new iPad Pro with the M2 chip is a combination of portability, versatility and unbelievable performance. The new iPad Pro supports the new Apple Pencil hover experience and blazing-fast wireless connectivity with a best-in-class mobile device display, pro-level camera, Face ID, Thunderbolt port and a four-speaker audio system. New iPadOS 16 features include front-of-the-counter scheduling, full support for external displays1, desktop-level apps and reference mode – further enhancing pro-level workflow on iPad. With advanced hardware and iPadOS 16, iPad Pro has a unique and extraordinary ecosystem of powerful pro-class apps.
