With the arrival of PCI Express 5.0 and CXL 2.0, we will usher in a new era of extremely fast storage. At CES 2023, Phison showcased its latest PCIe Gen 5 solutions, which also included some interesting technology for enterprise customers.

First on the consumer side, Phison showed off its PS5026-E26 controller, which incorporates Phison’s proprietary I/O+ technology, which the company claims will “lead a new evolution in gaming experience.”

According to reports, this is the chip used by Phison for flagship solid-state drives. When paired with high-end NAND flash memory, it can achieve sequential read and write speeds of more than 12,500MB and 10,000MB/s, and can also achieve 1,500,000 IOPS 4K random Read and 4K random write performance of 2,000,000 IOPS.

Phison’s I/O+ technology is a firmware optimized and customized for SSD, designed to enhance continuous read and write performance, and this performance improvement may not necessarily be reflected in the workload, but This just reflects the advantages of Microsoft’s DirectStorage API.

Phison said: With the help of I/O+ technology, the game can run continuously for more than 12 hours and the available bandwidth is guaranteed to be stable. The stable bandwidth can eliminate visual or audio stuttering problems during the game. Of course, it also has benefits for non-gaming workloads, such as developers can compile source data faster in the Chrome browser.

On the enterprise level, Phison demonstrated its latest PCIe Gen 5 X-series X2 master control solution. According to Phison, it can deliver sequential read and write performance of more than 14GB/s, as well as 3.2 million random operations, which is even twice the performance per watt of the previous generation solution.

In addition, Phison also introduced its PS7201 retimer technology, the previous generation PS7101 is the world’s first PCIE 5.0 retimer certified by the PCI-SIG Association, designed to address performance and data integrity in enterprise and automotive applications questions.
