Patent granted for new Apple flexible folding screen technology

0

According to a list recently announced by the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office, Apple has obtained a technology patent for folding screens, which introduces a method of chemically manufacturing textured glass at the fold to prevent The glass breaks.

The patent describes flexible screen technology that uses an array of pixels to form a display panel that bends along a hinge when the device is folded.

The display cover may be formed from a glass layer. Elongated grooves or other grooves parallel to, and overlapping with, the bending axis may be formed in the glass layer.

The grooves create flexible localized thinnings in the glass layer that allow the display cover layer to flex when the foldable device is opened and closed.

Apple places the polymer in the grooves and creates a rough texture on the inner surface of the thinned portion of the display cover, which wets the polymer in the grooves and helps reduce reflections.

Figure 1 of Apple’s patent shows device No. 10, which can be a mobile phone, tablet, laptop, etc.; Figure 2 is a perspective view of the electronic device, which is a portable electronic device with a foldable display. IT Home attaches pictures as follows:

Placing the device in a folded configuration in this way helps make the device more compact so it can be stored efficiently. When it is time to view the image on display #14, the device can be expanded around axis #28, placing the device in the expanded configuration of Figure 2.

The display can then be laid flat and the user can view a flat image on the display. The ability to fold the display onto itself gives the device the behavior of folding inwards. The display can be flexible enough to allow the device to fold outward and/or inward.
