Under the guidance of the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, Nokia Bell has successfully completed 5G millimeter-wave independent group network field performance testing, according to a 5G Promotion Group release.

Nokia Bell continued to use AirScale commercial-grade millimeter wave base station products and test terminals equipped with Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon X65 5G modem and RF system, and following the verification of key technologies in the lab, the maximum single-user downlink rate exceeded 7.1Gbps and the maximum uplink rate reached 2.1Gbps in the field test while completing different scenarios of line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight In the field test, the maximum single-user downlink rate exceeded 7.1Gbps and the maximum uplink rate reached 2.1Gbps, and the key functions and performance tests such as good/medium/bad user rate, time delay and beam switching under different scenarios of line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight were completed.

Compared to NSA, NR-DC and other networking modes, FR2-only networking can not rely on other frequencies’ independent networking, more flexible and convenient. Taking into account the characteristics of millimeter wave technology such as large bandwidth and low latency, it can bring more application scenarios for operators and industry users.

As the development of 5G millimeter wave technology continues and global commercialization accelerates, Nokia Bell will continue to prepare for millimeter wave commercialization and promotion in China under the guidance of the IMT-2020 (5G) advancement group.
