Nikon today announced the launch of a Nikkor Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR telephoto zoom lens, priced at 12,499 RMB by the Bank of China, and will be on sale in August 2023.

According to reports, the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f / 5.6-6.3 VR is a telephoto zoom lens compatible with Nikon Z mount full-frame / FX format digital mirrorless cameras.

It supports close-up photos of distant objects, such as birds, wildlife, and airplanes. The shortest shooting distance at the wide-angle end is about 1.3m, and the shortest shooting distance at the telephoto end is about 2.4m, which is also suitable for taking close-up shots of flowers and insects that appear at the user’s feet.

In addition, the lens has about 5.5 stops of vibration reduction (VR) while employing an internal zoom mechanism, which is claimed to “greatly increase operability”.

The main selling points of this lens are attached:

It supports a focal length range of 180mm to 600mm, weighs about 1955g, and requires "big muscles" to control.

The closest focusing distance at the maximum wide-angle position is about 1.3 meters, allowing close-up shots of flowers and insects beneath the user's feet.

Vibration Reduction (VR) performance is equivalent to about 5.5 stops faster shutter speed, which is effective in reducing blur in dimly lit environments and/or when shooting handheld.

The adoption of a stepping motor (STM) ensures fast and quiet autofocus.

The zoom stability is improved by adopting an internal zoom mechanism.

The 4 lens Fn buttons on the front of the lens barrel can be assigned various functions and support operation during handheld shooting.

The lens hood has a locking button to ensure that the lens hood fits securely.

The front lens also features an anti-smudge fluorine coating that repels dust and grime.

Offers a click-free control ring with smooth operation and reduced operating sound, and a design that considers breathing suppression, making it suitable for video recording.

Excellent resolution is maintained when using the Z Teleconverter TC-1.4× or Z Teleconverter TC-2.0×, which extend the maximum focal length to 840mm or 1200mm respectively.

6 low-dispersion glass elements are used to compensate for chromatic aberration.
