Motorola announces Moto X40 to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform

Qualcomm today officially announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, and just now Motorola issued a text confirming that the moto X40 will be equipped with the platform.

The moto X40 weighs 196 grams, has a 161.3 x 73.9 x 8.5mm body size, and features a 6.67-inch 1080 x 2400 resolution OLED screen that supports 10bit color depth and under-screen fingerprint recognition. Snapdragon 8 Gen2 uses a 4nm process with 1 Cortex-X3-based Kryo super core at 3.2GHz, 4 performance cores (2 x Cortex A715 + 2 x Cortex A710, both at 2.8GHz), and 3 Cortex-A510 energy efficiency cores (small cores at 2.0GHz). Compared with Snapdragon 8, the final CPU performance is 35% higher and power consumption is 40% lower. New Adreno GPU with 25% better performance and 45% less power consumption, Vulkan 1.3 support, and hardware-level ray tracing support.

Snapdragon 8 Gen2 integrates a new Hexagon processor with a significantly enhanced tensor unit and a claimed 4.35x performance increase in some scenarios. Equipped with X70 5G baseband and the new FastConnect 7800 unit, it supports 5G dual SIM dual pass (up to 10Gbps downlink), Wi-Fi 7 (up to 5.8Gbps, twice the Wi-Fi 6), Bluetooth 5.3, Bluetooth LE audio, 48kHz lossless audio, spatial audio and more.

In addition, the new perception ISP (triple 18bit) supports the latest CMOS from Samsung and Sony with up to 200 megapixels in a single unit, supporting up to 8K 30P or 4K 120P video capture.

The first batch of Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will be equipped with Xiaomi, Redmi, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, OV and other manufacturers, and the new machines are expected to start rolling out at the end of 2022.
